Merging two databases

Hi,

Can anyone point me in the right direction to merge two databases.

I have one database which all data must be kept.

I have a second database where records should be added where the primary key does not exists, and where it does I would like all content of the row to be placed in a specific field of the first database !

Very simple, but you don't say the technology of the database - access / mysql / etc

Basically you run through the second, read each record
Check for existence of primary key in first
If there add field, else create new record

What type of database is it?

1 million lines across 14 excel documents.

plus i have a copy on an sql server if that opens up possibilities.

The SQL will definitely make it easier. You might want to look for a PHP developer to help you with writing a simple script to do that. Shouldn't be that complicated.

Any other language would do too, but I suppose it's easier to do in PHP given it's popularity.

SQL or MySQL?

If mysql, then pm me, we can sort it out for you...
Don't play with Microsoft SQL as much

Can do it from excel, but will take a bit longer
We can write a script very easily if we can have access to the db

Hi,Im consolidating my blog network and want to merge to sport blogs I have into one blog. Im struggling to find any resources online on how to merge two Wordpress MYSQL databases. Or even import the one database into the other.Copying the file folders images, documents across shouldnt be a problem.Any help? Im even willing to hire someone to do it for me.

is the one db stored in wordpress e.g. a fully functioning website? If so then use the export tool (tools > export) then download the .sql file, then use the import tool (tools > import) to merge the old into the new
