Merging customer accounts in Sage 50

Planning to do a bit of tidying up on our sage system. We have 30,000 customer records but the percentage of duplicates is growing. This is mainly because we import web orders directy into sage and it seems to follow the rule "if in doubt, create a new account". So for example we have Mr Smith, Mr T Smith, Mr Tom Smith, Tom Smith, Thomas Smith etc all with the same address.

I've looked for an add-on for Sage 50 that will merge duplicate accounts but the only one I found only handles customer records from earlier versions (we use 2011). I wondered if this is a common problem for businesses and if anyone has found a practical solution?

There's certainly no mechanism in the program to do it although it is possible, if not a little complex, for a Sage Developer to do it. If there is an existing application that you've found, contact the developer as, if they are still members of the Sage Developers Programme they should be able to update their program to work with v2011.

If not then then I may be able to help.

Hi John
Thanks for the quick reply! I've looked into the add-ons and the only one that sounded hopeful was from Ledger Services and it's called Code Maintenance for Sage 50 Accounts.

However v 2010, 2011 & 2012 update nominals and products only and not customer and supplier codes as we'd hoped. It's also £400 which although do-able is a hefty chunk for something that you'd (well I'd) think would be included in the programme as standard.

I'm sure there are lots of businesses out there with the same issues so any suggestions appreciated!
