Its a waste of money, they approached us last year about re-selling their accreditation to our shop owners on a commission basis... its nothing more than a cash cow for them.

There are far cheaper UK Government endorsed schemes for websites that give your visitors the same type of reassurance.

such as?

safebuy? shopsafe?

Either. Any. The purpose of an accreditation is to give your customers a sense of reassurance when putting in their payment details to buy something from your website. It can also give the impression of a more professionally run business.

But with respect to the brand names jumping on the bandwagon in this market, its all an illusion. From years of experience of these schemes none of them, even the original Which? scheme, pays anything more than lip service to a websites true safety and trustworthiness.

I still recommend getting a good looking accreditation to put on your website, but all you are getting from the likes of McAfee when spending hundreds / thousands is their brand name on the accreditation... there is no justification for their rediculous price
