Mazgazine printers

Hi All,

I'm looking at getting some magazines printed on a monthly basis for an engineering group i run, nothing special, but it needs to be properly printed about 15-20 pages normal magazine size.

Can anyone help, or know of a company that can do this, probably about 500 print run to start

thanks in advance :D

best company we have used for this kind of thing (amazing kit and experience and reasonably competitive) is ESP in Swindon

http://www.espcolour.co.uk/
Ask for Andy who knows us well...

they have kit there that calibrates on the fly / worth a visit if you ever can - fascinating (to those who like this kind of thing!)

we use them for runs of that order up to maybe 10,000 or so
6 page folded A4 to 100+ page catalogues

they are currently printing that number of a 100 page auction catalogue for us...

highly recommended.

Thanks for that, now the next bit

What can i make my magazine with, i don't want to spend silly money on quark and not have a clue how to use it, are there any cheaper alternatives out there for creating a magazine??

Thanks

Any decent printer will probably expect it in PDF format.
ESP as shown above have their own process you use alongside Acrobat distiller to set it up for them (I am sure that they would talk you through this, or could do it for you - we tend to do it to give us control)

Therefore, arguably anything from which you can make a PDF - word should suffice and I see no reason why you couldn't use publisher / word / etc. to do it - yes I could give you a 1000 reasons (ish!) for use of 'proper' software - we use InDesign as it is strongly integrated with the rest of the CS5 suite from Adobe which is hugely useful for a design company, but if you are happy with the layout you can achieve in other software and it can produce the PDF you need then do what you will...

I am assuming that you are doing this in house to keep costs down? If so, then the design elements of more grown up software is not important, if it is for external clients / to sell, then it might be worth looking at spending a little bit more and at least having a template set up
