How would you go about marketing to farmers in the UK? Have any of you been successful in marketing products to farmers? One of my contacts has a great product that would be of tremendous interest to many farmers throughout the UK. I'm looking for ways of reaching them about it.

Hi, I can't give much details publicly, but suffice it to say that it would be an alternative use for land of C grade or below. So any farmers who have horses on their land for example, or land that would not be suitable for crops would be a great prospect. How do I find them?!

I think your best bet is to put an advert or get an article about it (they both have sections for both new products and land uses) in Farmers Weekly and Farmers Guardian. There is also a 'British Farming Forum' which is easy to find via Google. An increasing number of farmers are now using Twitter too.

Thanks for the advice. Ideally I am looking for free ways, since I will not receive any compensation for referring any farmers to my contact.

I will certainly look on Twitter to see if I can find any farmers. Please let me know if you can think of any other free ways!

What's the point in doing it if you aren't going to be paid?

Marketing a product or service to farmers isn't difficult, but to get worthwhile results you are going to need to pay someone who knows what they are doing.

I reckon UK floriculture farmers have a great deal of learning to do even from the least expected quarters, -Kenya, Eastern Africa, in my visit to Kenya i was invited by Grada Blooms CEO Mr Anthony and.. boy o-boy! I was impressed by their expansive beautiful summer and rose flower farms as well as their marketing strategies ...don knw wether their site is complete

Great Advice by everyone so far,

I'm a big LinkedIn fan at the moment, so I suggest you use that.

You can use the advanced search feature to look for Farmers, and then ask to connect with them.

I just did a quick search that came back with hundreds of farmers in the UK, not all will be your exact targets but you will get a list of names.

My top tip for approaching people on LinkedIn is to personalise your introduction, this way your much more likely to get accepted than if you send out a generic introduction. Find out a bit about them and their business before you contact them and make your message relevant to them.
