Marketing letter

Twisterwebsites

Hi all,

I'm going to send letters out to many companies to see if they'd like a website. I want to include an item/ something that will make a letter more than a letter and an experience to make us stand out from other web companies.

Has anyone got any ideas for the letter? Or ideas for what we can include to make us stand out. It can be funny, clever, cheap, vibrant.. Anything as long as it'll be effective.

Thanks in advance.

You've got a challenge on your hands marketing web design services; and I don't mean that in a discouraging way - challenges are good, and fun, and seeing as though you're on a business forum asking for advice on marketing techniques and putting this much thought into it then I'm assuming you'll do well.

But, there's a lot of web design companies around now, and in my opinion, USPs have never been so important when it comes to offering people websites. Just saying you'll provide them with a nice, professional looking web presence doesn't cut it anymore.

In terms of quirkiness - I'll have a think about anything funny/clever angles you could take on advertising for you throughout the day, but what I would say for now is to have a think about tangible parts of your service/pricing you can offer. Can you offer customised e-commerce (shopping basket, product catalog) features free for a few months for every new customer, for example? Can you offer a flat monthly rate which will cover all maintenance work within reason? Free social networking plug ins and feeds to your customers' twitter and facebook accounts? I'm not sure, but for me to opt for a web design business now it'd take a catchy pricing scheme or feature that not many others offer.

Out of curiosity, what has made you choose a letter instead of printed flyer? Not that a letter's the less effective, I'm just wondering.

Web design is a hugely competitive market so you need an edge, something a bit different. Why not include with your letter a video on DVD showcasing your work. The letter should refer to the video as being "hot" and not to be missed. Who could resist putting it into a DVD player and watching it. Good luck!

How about a fake dog poo in a box with a message like... "Does your website resemble this? We can turn this into something amazing. I want to come and see you to show you what I can do to make you stand out and have your website work for you and not against you. I will call you in a day or so to make an appointment.

Not sure what reaction you will get but you will stand out :)

haha Simon M's suggestion will definitely get you noticed. I like different angles on advertising like that sometimes. The only thing I can think of, for now, is maybe (if you were using a flyer) have it designed poorly; colour clashes, poor font choices etc. with the idea of delivering the message (maybe on the reverse side of the flyer) that "everyone knows bad design when they see it, your business deserves better."
