Hi everyone.

I have been using Pay-per-click advertising on Google and Yahoo but recently the costs have made it harder to make a reasonable profit.

Most of the people I do websites for do say that it is a very good service for a very low price and I do get some enquiries through local SEO in Manchester but not enough. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what other avenues I could try?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Weegie,

Based on your prices you have a very unique selling point. You need to be proactive rather than reactive to your marketing to get your message out there.

I have pm'd you with an idea and I hope we chat soon.

All the best

How detailed is your PPC campaign?

How do you measure conversion currently and are you targeting the right people with the right message?

PPC works great for me, we get around 30-40% conversion consistently.

Its very easy to run a PPC campaign badly!

Via our own research, we have discovered that the "Soft Sell approach" IS the best method in marketing our services...this includes relationship building via professional online networks and business intelligence suppliers.

To date we have noted that Stoke-on-Trent has a market to be exploited in the realms of website development and marketing strategy...hence the reasons why we focused our operations in this city.

Our knowledge enable us to approach businesses and change mindsets in direction and change that are associated with local and national economic trends...further adding a structured plan of reaching specific objectives that will deliver a R.O.I for our clients.

If you require further Market Intelligence please PM me directly.

Apart from working on organic rankings (and a focus on longtail searches), you should try and use all the free methods of advertising open to you.

Get you service listed in all the classified sites such as gumtree, vivastreet etc, do a search in google for classified ads and put the ad on all the sites you find, especially the ones showing up in the sponsored ads section of the google search page (idea being if they're paying to advertise it means they're active rather then some left for dead website).

Also small local paper ads are often overlooked, but can be a goldmine of leads, get a small classified ad every week in your most popular local paper, they normally only cost a few quid a shot and can often turn up some great clients.

Offer something for free, something that costs you a little time, not money, such as a free SEO audit of a businesses website for example, it might catch a few people's attention and get your foot in the door.

Just a few ideas :)

Good luck.

Weegie,

I have been a sales professional for over 20 years, I am not trying to tell you how to run your business. But a very common mistake for a new business is to try use price (usually low) as the unique selling point.

You seem to be offering a very low price service, my first instinct, as a buyer, is to be skeptical. If you are struggling to make decent profit then I suggest you raise your prices, and only offer such a low deal as a special i.e. this week only etc.

I know it seems nuts but in my early days I lost a lot of business by being too cheap, imagine going to buy a car that is 70% cheaper than all similar cars, what would you think!!

I would try and focus more on quality and value, you have some terrific testimonials, use them!!

PM me if you want to chat.
