Market stall.

Would i need a trading license for a market stall? Would i need to give proper till receipts?

What would i do about returns, if i just tried a one day market stall?

It really does differ from council to council, however some questions will stay the same...

Depends where the market is to wether or not you need a permit or not, but probably not - contact the market in question for full details.

You don't need to give the customer a reciept, however the customer would still have the right to return an Item purchased off you - If they can find you or if you are there week after week.

You may need to have public liability insurance - not expensive but is for a one off maket event with low sales (around £80 a year)

As I said above, different markets / councils have different rules and regulations, may even come down to what you are selling, so just contact the market manager for full details as they will tell you what you need.

Good Luck

Thanks guys, will look into both of those things.

I thought public liability was slipping on floors etc, which the market would be insured for surely?

Gemma

Public Liability is usually the responsibility of the Trader in the event that the public injur themselves within the boundaries of your stand or on your products during build up and breakdown etc.

The Market Trader Asoociation do a good combined cover but you can get cheaper if you look around. It's definately worth having as it will cover you for all sorts of events as well as the markets.

Every market and show I have ever had a stall at have always insisted on all stall holders to have public liability insurance up to the value of £2Million hence why we take out a yearly policy.

It is in case any customers are injured by you, your stand or any of your products (even once they have taken the product home) So it is something you will probably be told you have to have and provide proof of cover before setting up your stall.

Just going through the same myself. If you join the National Market Traders Federation as suggested above (£90.00) you automatically receive £5 million pound public liability insurance which our local council and many show organisers ask for.
To trade at many shows you will also need to complete a risk assessment and some show organisers are asking for a fire rated certificate for your tent or stand.
