Hi, I am looking to get some Market research info together to build my business plan around. It is for a niche price comparison website but I need to know things like how many people in the UK use the particular products, the growth in this figure over the last 3-5 years. The split between different sexes and growth for each category etc.
I would be fine getting info on web searches for key phrases, it's just the big general real figures I need. Am I better of employing an agency or is there specific places I can look?

Previously I completed a very minor marketing plan which included this aspect. The method i advocated was to rent a mailing list and send out questionnaires. But bear in mind that there is a very low response rate for these type of things so send out 20-30% more than you need to, in the hope that you may get back the amount you require.
