Man With A Van - Where to get rid of garden/household waste?

Starting a man with a van business. I'd like to offer a local service of taking excess garden waste and other household waste to the tip. But the council tip doesn't accept such loads. I can't find out if they offer a system for these sort of loads? Anyone know?

Any scrap metal I can take to the scrap yard and get a bit of cash. But what about just rubbish?

Stacks of work out there - best of luck, but whilst you say your local tip may not accept such loads or vehicles, there will be one in the council area that does.

Search 'waste disposal and recycling' along with the name of your council and you should get all the information you need - or otherwise go to a tip and read the signs or ask.... the correct and current information should be there.

You perhaps need to buy a chipper and follow what the tree pruners and hedge trimmers do with their waste. The guy that prunes my trees has a large chipper andhe must have tons of the chipped material each month to get rid of. I do not know what he does with it though.
They often sell it, its good for flowerbeds and prevents weeds

Bear in mind this is commercial waste, not domestic.

Our tree surgeon was happy to leave us as much as we wanted. Otherwise he piles it up on his farm and hopes someone will come and take some. A bit like horse manure from stables, often free for the taking.

This is the last thing I would want to get involved in .Low profits and customers expecting the earth in an environment where life is difficult for the operator
At the moment I have empty tanks of adblue ,empty screen wash tanks and 50 litres of waste engine oil and nobody wants to take it away
What a nightmare of a business this would be

I have just re-read the OP - I'll agree to disagree with you @Newchodge
The origin of the waste may be domestic and, if the owner of the waste rented a van and took it to a domestic tip, with a permit, then it remains domestic waste. As soon as the owner of the domestic waste pays someone to dispose of it, it becomes commercial waste. And the man with a van needs a waste carrier's licence

As for garden waste many councils let residents buy a second wheely bin and don't charge for collecting the extra bin, so there might not be a big demand for a garden waste collecting service.

If the service is marketed as an alternative to getting a small skip, there might be a chance of getting some income from it. Skips are expensive if they are not filled, they clutter up the streets, kids set them alight and people rummage through them. So there might be a demand from small builders and DIY builders. They ring you up when they have a load and you call to collect it. Charging could be a problem though. You might have to weigh each bag of waste.

As mentioned by others, it will normally be classed as commercial waste unless you have good contacts at the rubbish sites, you will need the correct licences and there is plenty of business.

The hardest part is selling the service to joe public, most see waste as worthless, will expect you to come and pick it up, sort it and give a quick garden makeover all for £25. Then you also have the guys who will “dispose” of a van full in the middle of the night when few people are watching.

There is a reason why the saying “where’s there’s muck there’s brass” started, personally I couldn’t stand getting rid of waste, which is why I never really got into it. I would get rid of clean stuff, such as tv’s, sofas etc, but most normal loads will ruin your vehicles and make them stink to high heaven, and a tough way to make a living, but someone has to do it.

Got alot of Irish quoting clearance cheap in London. Watched my neighbour have a massive amount cleared for a few grand. Doubt it's being dumped properly.
(I like Irish builders before anyone moans at me for pointing them out).
We are unable to to tell the nationality of fly tippers because we don't know who they are ?

That would be down to your neighbour then for not checking that they had a waste license. Having said that lots of assumptions on your part

That's very strange - never heard of a council area that doesn't take commercial waste. Where are you based.
None of the ones round here do. All council tips are domestic waste only. The council may offer a commercial waste collection service, for a price, but usually it is commercial companies doing that. But they don't allow commercial waste carriers to dispose of their waste at council tips.
