Hello

I have a few questions for Man and Van drivers in LONDON. It would be really helpful if you could answer them.

  • How many jobs on average do you get on a daily basis?

  • Do you mostly deal with full house removals or delivery of large goods?

  • What can one expect to earn as a man and van driver per annum?

  • Any understanding of how many man and van drivers there are in London?

  • Are you self employed or do you work with a company who send you jobs?

Any elaboration on the questions above would be great.

Thanks in advance

Not from London but from personal experience when I had my own removal courier business...

Average jobs per day.. 2
I dealt with anything which could fit into a van, I specialised in small removals, flats and 2-4 bed houses.
How many in London... no idea, but too many.
I was self employed.

The hard one, how much can you expect to earn. Before I gave the career up due to arthritus the average man in a van in my area was charging £15/hr, I charged £60/hr.

I was very busy, but I was totally reliable, never failed to turn up, never quit a job, word of mouth recommendation is key.

Several years later I imagine most migrants are doing this without the correct insurances etc, and the hourly rate is probably now £10-15hr. You need a way to market yourself as being worth the extra money.

As an example I was asked on a friday afternoon to do a flat removal after 10pm in central London, I asked for and got £500/hr, a nice five hours work and a £500 tip. I got the job due to having over 500 happy genuine testimonials on my website, the guy had already decided he wanted myself to do the job, I was the only person stupid enough to do it that late, but it was the only time he could do the move due to his work. In other words, there are no set rules or prices.
