Morning All,

Does anyone have real experience with making money on the internet via either Affiliate Marketing, E-Books, etc.??? It seems like a great opportunity to set up something and make a little extra money, but there are so many varying views on some of these programs it's hard to distill what is an honest opinion and what is not.

Any help would be nice!!

Thanks!

Everyone who tries to sell you something will tell you its a sure thing, if it was why would they sell it to you for £5.99, $99 or £149.99? Like selling an ebook on how to make bio diesel when the information is freely available on the WWW.

There is no secret to making money, work hard and work smart, if you don't know how its done, work harder.

When I choose to work for clients, I don't charge for my time until I deliver what I say I can deliver. If someone wants to get me into an affiliate programme, MLM or the next big thing, I always say to them "Fine, I'll join, but you pay for me to join and I'll pay for the next person who joins, out of the money I make". Only once did someone take me up on it.

It's not easy money

I tried it...very half heartedly...no success worth mentioning.

Finding a decent product is hard, then driving enough traffic to it is harder :) Good luck though...some of course do succeed.

Drop shipping might be a better bet but again it's finding a good drop shipping service you can rely on.

I'd avoid selling ebooks personally, very saturated and as mentioned most of the info is available for free somewhere on the Internet. Also it's always seemed somewhat unethical to me, even though I'm sure that's not always the case, and probably just my prejudice.

However that doesn't mean all affiliate programmes aren't worth pursuing. I had a client who was making around £2k per year just froma few links on his own business website, he was infact reccemmending a product to his clients that he had always done for free in his office, whereas now he was making money out of it.

His website wasn't even getting that many hits (in relation to the profit he earned).

I think the trick is to get the product right. I mean there is no need in picking 'gambling' as once again you'll never get anywhere near the top of the SERPS and then you'll just be wasting your time. However if you pick a more niche product of 'White Pine Dressers' then you'll have a much better chance of getting to the front page of Google and then getting visits and eventually commission.

Obviously you are never going to be able to retire on a small commission of selling 'White small dressers' but lets say they cost £400 on average, and you get 10%, that's a nice £40, now times that by 12 and all of a sudden £480 doesn't sound so bad, especially as you then create more and more of these niche sites. There are no guarantees in the affiliate game and it's hard work, but can also be very profitable either as a nice second income or as a full time business.

I've met millionaires who solely work as affiliates here in the UK, and they aren't selling the 'how to make a million' rubbish ebooks, so it can be done. Good luck.

With e-books, it's about creating the hype before launching. Start with a blog, capture an interested audience and eventually launch an e-book.

We've helped quite a number of clients to advertise their e-books. I must admit though, there are thousands and thousands of people giving this a go right now.

.

Almost everything is available for free on the Internet these days but many people value their time differently.

If I would like to start Atkins diet - I wouldn't spend hours upon hours on Internet finding best recipes. I would simply go to Amazon and get best selling title on Atkins recipes. 5 mins and done.

These days when we have millions of website, blogs, books, e-books, videos, audios etc. etc. power lies in your ability to get best out of it and do it QUICKLY.

I have a 2 month coaching program where people pay me 1500 GBP to set-up e-commerce businesses. Most of them are in full time day jobs, so time they can spend on this is limited. Yes, they could do it on their own and get same results but it would take them several years to gain knowledge and experience in this business I have already.

I have spent thousands of pounds on courses, books, seminars and still do it regularly to stay updated with current trends, learn from other people, exchange views, join discussions etc. etc. It's called progress and learning - something everyone should be doing throughout their lives.

Just my opinion :)

I have just finished reading a fantastic book on this subject by George Marshall "Get Out Whilst You Can". In essence it is about multiple income streams and while each stream might only make you a few hundred pounds, once set up it will go on making money for sometime with only the occasional maintaintance so if you creat multiple small niche websites using affilate marketing then it may add up into a serious income. The book also covers domain name trading, google adsense, ebay, but it covers affilate marketing in some detail and even goes into a paint by numbers demo of building a simple website. Well worth a read and available from Amazon.

It's as easy, or as difficult as you make it.

But either way, it's still a business and should be approached as such.

I'm not going to brag about my earnings from selling digital products, but I'll give you an idea of how it's worked out for me - without a mentor or buying any products to teach me.

  • I got a trial copy of Camtasia to record the screen and my voice.
  • Imagined I was speaking to a complete beginner, who knew nothing about my topic (SEO) and took them to expert level through a series of videos.
  • Created a Powerpoint presentation so they would have something to follow along with my voice.
  • Uploaded the videos to Amazon S3.
  • Created a basic sales page & Paypal URL redirection (after payment).
  • Found a bunch of people online (forums, blogs, mailing lists etc) who were trying to learn SEO.
  • Paid for advertising on the forums, blogs & mailing lists, driving them to the sales page.
In all, it took around 2 weeks to make the product - and the earnings were more than I made from doing SEO for my clients that year (can't say how much, but enough).

The odd refund was a pain.. the only downside to selling digital products is that you get people making a purchase and 5 minutes later requesting a refund after they have downloaded.

Now, if I was smart, here's what I should have done..
  • Created a basic (cheaper) version of the product.
  • Offered the full version as an upsell or OTO.
  • Recruited affiliates.
  • Created a monthly membership program.
  • Organised and sold tickets to a seminar.
  • Offered backend one-to-one mentoring.
We live & learn.

Making money on the Internet.

Just like any other form of business you will need to have a USP, a purpose to attract users to come to you.

As a start up company, getting consistent traffic, hits and links to your site to bring in business can be an uphill struggle.

It is also not an over night task, it will require plenty of hours, targeting content, building up connections and developing a web presence.

The best bet will be to focus on niche markets and to use the internet as an additional marketing to work alongside your existing skills base, rather than relying solely on the internet.
