If you had a group of people who are subscribing to your newsletter or blog for example then you would be able to promote products to them. If you are considered an "expert" in your field then people will trust you and should buy from you. If you have many thousands of subscribers then you can attract advertisers too and do joint ventures with others on a 50/50 split.

As for Facebook I think this is one mighty big bubble waiting to burst!

Hi there,

As webgeek has just mentioned, affiliate links can offer a good stream of income for very little extra effort.

The beauty of the Amazon affiliate marketing scheme is that even if they link to Amazon from your group earn a commission on the sale. This can be as high as 10% providing you direct enough traffic.

The difference here with what webgeek has said, is that you can very subtly stylishly integrate this particular link into the page or a comment/status, without it being too gawdy and overpowering. If you have a successful and engaged following, then people will follow your recommendations and you should reap the benefits of building a successful network.

It is important to note, that so many other companies run affiliate programs and they don't have to be gawdy unattractive, annoying additions to your page.

It entirely depends what your group is based around though. If it is music for example, you can advertise albums etc. Same way for sport, you can link recommended equipment.

how do you get a link and put it on your page?

I run a private FB groupy, which is kind of like a 'mastermind' sort of group where I share out a lot of free content and it is almost like my support desk as well while I am getting a separate support desk set up.

At the minute it is sort of just an extra added value to my current client base and its exclusively for them. But with the value I am trying to give in there, I could probably get people to pay to be a member of it.

But I would never rely on one thing too much, especially when it is out of your control. I have seen some huge Facebook groups with upwards of 10,000 active members get shut down in an instant over trivial things.

If you start promoting your own affiliate links, it can work well - and a lot better than FB pages do - but it does open the gateway for spammers as well.

Your going to need to 'sell' something. Whether that is via ads, referral schemes or what depends on you.

I personally think you shouldn't try and make money via Facebook directly. Use it only to market and inform.

Hi,

Well ive been growing my facebook page and really want some help to see if I can get money made from it. I had a forum that I never made any money from it was just a hobby and the forum folded anyway. I then branched out to a facebook group page on the same topic which is working well. I feel its timeIstarted tomake something from it. Any ideas? Can i team up with anyone?

Will anyone pay me to advertise on there?
The people that use it are mainly stay at home mums of various ages.

I dont understand your reply. Sorry.

just to say I am building up interest and over the last few days have had requests to join the group from a well known parenting site?

Anyone any tips for me or want a mention at a good price let me know?

I am not even sure what a good price is. I think the advantage maybe with a facebook page is people make take more notice. Some of the larger sites have loads of adverts. Theres more of a personal touch with my page as i post and do the admin etc.

It would be good to have a competition running occassionally. Something for mums to win.Not sure how it would be done though.

Hi,

I have set up a group on Facebook for my local town and in 5 weeks we now have 3877 active members. Does anyone know how i can make money from this?

I actually have 7 of these groups active on the same theme. I was told we can make money through affiliates, how is this done and how do i get the links onto the group?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
John

Sponsored posts for direct revenue? No.
Affiliate marketing and free products? Yes.

Also, sure there will be a shady clause in Facebook's TOS about direct monetization anyway. I have a large following on Twitter and have companies sending me freebies all the time, I then decide as to whether or not I want to post about those companies as they are often sent on the off chance that the product is of interest to me. Can be a nice little earner in that respect but not as a sustainable revenue stream unfortunately.

Also: be careful about the frequency of your monetization - people will get bored and your influence and reach will diminish quickly.

In FB ToS, there is a strict no sponsorship rule

So no charging for posts on your group or being company of the month etc

As someone else said, you don't own the FB group so FB control whether you have access or not

So you want to be using the group for lead gen but driving traffic from the group into your email list where you do own the data

If you can sell their personal information to companies it would be a start, This is how facebook make the bulk of their income. Try and scrap every tiny bit of personal information without letting them know and sell it on, PPI and accident claims are market leaders followed by solar panels on 3rd.

The great thing is once you have all this information you can sell it to loads of companies

Do you mean you have a large following in a personal capacity?...your company only has about 200 followers.

Not sure if someone has said something along these lines as I haven't read through the whole thread, but when I was 14 I made a random facebook page and got somewhere in the region of 12,000 likes, someone then bought the page from me for £35 (sure I could have got more, I was just 14 and it seemed great to me).

I haven't read all of this thread, so apologies if I duplicate previous responses.
Social media for marketing is a lot harder these days than previous. Sites like Facebook now are driven by their shareholders, and delivering dividend and therefore have now had to attempt to monetise the service with sponsored posts etc.

This blog post may be of interest....

Pretty sure that was against FB's TOS so good job it wasn't for a large sum of money! What was the page about that got so many likes?

I'd advise against the OP trying to find a way to make money on FB, to complicated and as everyone has rightly said, the smallest of problems and FB will just shut you down instead!

I would say that social media sites are a good source for direct traffic but relying most of your time here to earn is not really a good idea for online business. I would say you start with a good website instead and promote your products there.

A group of people I work with have just released a new product in London that is focussed on helping people monetize facebook/twitter followers. The website is kwerdo.com. Sign up and enter details about your Facebook/Twitter followers, and a list of available campaigns are shown that match your audience.

When you see a campaign you like, click join and you will be given a shortened url. Post that on your page with an interesting description of the product and for each unique click you generate that is from the right location you'll earn 0.85¢(US).

I have tried contacting your support email with questions but the mails keep bouncing back.
