Magazine Distribution Advice....

Hello again guys,

Ok so ive finally got 2 out of 4 wheels in motion to start my magazine, hopefully have a logo ready to use soon, got a website creator onboard to help infiltrate the internet first of all and then hopefully into print we go.

I have quite an extensive list of where i would like my magazine to be available for customers to pick up, but was curious as to how i go about getting my magazine in these places.

It a simple task of picking up ye olde trustworthy telephone and getting in touch?

Anything i should look out for / be weary of.....

Look forward to your responses :)

the magazine will more than likely be a free publication so im more interested in trying to implement it into gyms, cafes, hotels, shops etc....

although of course im not going to object to Tesco having it in their shop!! :)

Depends on the gym.
Independant and family shops/hotels/gyms etc will all usually take free magazines by just phoning them and if it doesnt fit or work they may ask you to stop

Some of the larger groups will require you to contact the HQ to propose the idea or the local council if it is run by them. Most of them will be able to pass you to the correct people and help you out.

Free magazines are alot easier to get in places that they target though than paid mags!

Business really Darren,

Came up with the idea because as well as it being a passion of ours (combining a majority Sport them with some nightlife) we feel that it is something our city / area is lacking and something that people would appreciate.

We plan on having a strong local ethos and look forward to a good challenge!

Mass Appeal, thanks again for your info, i may even go down tesco now and check it out! haha.

Good luck with it mate.

And if you ever expand down this way contact me. :)

It would be really good to get a local sporting mag as Cardiff City and welsh sport in general is on a high, also a night out section would also take off really well!

How do you fund the magazine then? is that with businesses advertising etc?

You will find people like tesco will not take a chance on a new magazine but wh smiths may be more interested, especially your local wh smith. Let me know how you are distributing your magazine, are you wanting to sell the magazine or is it a paid for magazine. You could offer it free to companies, say for the first six months, this would get your readership up and then after that you could offer it on subscription, remember the advertising is the most important thing, if people are not reading it then they will not advertise in it

The magazine itself will be free, so therefore we will be depending heavily on advertising to support the magazine and also for some personal profit, although we need to try and secure enough funding to run off around 6 months worth of magazines id say.

Theres still a lot we have got to work on, still need to try and find contributors to help out with the first set of issues to keep costs, people to help with editorial and photographs etc.... seems like a hell of a lot of work which im excited but terrified about!
