This will just make banks more money right? As a merchant, we will now have to pay more per transaction.

We pay about 34p per transaction for maestro, opposed to 1.85% for visa credit or debit! On the higher checkouts this will really add up. Plus the implementation on the dreadful visa verified check.

It has been happening for the last 6-12 months.
RBS automatically issued a VISA debit card to me last year.

Same to me, and as RBS and n/west are the same company it was only to be expected.
