Had a problem with sound disappearing after sleep so looked on google and told to change vertual memory to 3000.

Did this in windows and found i had buggered up windows that now takes a hour to load half way and then conks out

Cannot open settings to change back settings to a sensible number

Happy to use regedit if anyone can advise where to find the vertual memory setting and what to enter. have 8 gb ram

    Any advice welcomed

Dont want to reinstall rescue and loose all data

Tried this but does not appear to save the data and reverts back to original, i though once you ok a change and then exit it saves the new file but looks not the case. reg editor is version 2004 build 19041.1 c 2019

Also unable to start in safe mode using f8 or shift and restart

Used the rescue disk to go back to older restore but no different, Thinking overnight maybe the Malwarebytes software is stopping me making changes to the registry and also safe mode don't know if way to turn it off as it automatically loads with windows
so it looks like first issue is turning Malwarebytes off then sorting things out
The fact that it gets so far running windows but very slowly indicates to me its not a virus as that's all the indications of lack of virtual memory
