M2 migration

So I’ve just been quoted to move my 1500 product M1 site over to M2.

It came in at 40k... 50k if I want a redesign

WTF! Is this realistic?

Depends what's involved and what you have on your store (like custom features or extensions and the suchlike)...

Wow. Really? I don't think I was rude in the slightest, your the one that's come along stating that the quotation was too high for a job that you have no idea what involves or know nothing about.

There are half a dozen plugins, mainly Amasty.

I guess the biggest issue is that it's actually a very different platform to M1.

Amasty has a M2 version of almost all of its plugins. So, there is no need to migrate them, just buy new versions.

I'd go back and try and ask them for a detailed list of things they'd do. Come back and paste it here and I can see if they are being reasonable.

There are some other modules from Firebear, Ubetheme and other extension development companies. However to migrate store from 1.x version to 2.x is not a one-step action. I am not sure that £40k is a reasonable price, because I worked with outsourcing agencies, but definitely, it costs money. Regarding module conflicts that might occur or the number of your products, categories, and other data it also requires some developer's skills.

1500 SKU ~250 hours + few extensions
redesign... there it depends on your needs. In my opinion designer should takes into account the Magento 2 specificities.

To be fair it isn't more than 300-350 hours. You need to give more info if still relevant.

Free tools will limit data migration, no have support in case the migration errors and don't migrate custom data. You should use the shopping cart data migration services available in the market for save money and time (eg. next-cart.com), just from $49 the your data will be moved fully and exactly, with support for special datas.
The costs for Themes migrations, Extensions migration depends on the complexity of the Source store along with monthly and yearly maintenance. 40~50k is a big number and it only deserves with really big store
