LTD COMPANY

Good evening

This is a little bit complicated but hopefully someone can help.

I'm a director of a ltd company and 90% of my work comes from another ltd company.

The said company that gives me 90% of my work (basically sees himself as my employer) doesn't know I do my own work currently and would stop giving me any work if this becomes apparent.

I am aware of IR35 and my accountant has decided I satisfy the rules to act as a ltd company director if anyone was going to raise the question.

I would like to start advertising for my own work (I don't at the moment) but would like to keep the work from my "employer" whilst I grow my own client base.

To do this I obviously have to shield what I'm doing, at the same time as advertising a business.

What is the best way to do this?

My preference is to advertise in the same areas (except within the immediate vicinity as we both live close to each other - too obvious)

Am I better off starting a new company As a sole trader (also running a ltd company at the same time). I believe as a sole trader my name and address is not on public record.

Or building a website with a different company name and linking this to my existing ltd company

Or any better ideas.

Thanks in advance

Website will still need business contact details.
And anyone you deal with would have your details - you won't know who is friends or simply talks to the other business.
Hey we had a quote from jolead and were wondering if you wanted to quote too...

While a business should not define who your business can deal with its a quandry - you need to move away from relying on one business, you need the business to keep using your business and you need multiple sources of income over time.

Would going sole trader alleviate the problems the other business can cause if they find you working?

Hi

Your question "Would going sole trader alleviate the problems the other business can cause if they find you working?"

No it wouldn't.

You are correct in saying my site would need contact details.

I believe regardless of what I do there is going to be some risk but it's a question of limiting the risk in the first place.

I would imagine others have been in my position before and wondered how they approached it.
