Low volume shipping

Hi,

Anyone have any views on getting the best rates from Fedex/DHL/UPS etc for relatively low volume,higher value, low weight shipments for import and export.
Also how do you rate them individually in your experience?

Once upon a time you used to get an account manager from the likes of Fedex,that you could maybe negotiate with,or at least ask the question... thats all long gone.

Yes you are right you always had a local account manager that would drive out to see you
If your looking at a higher value freight I would recomend talking to APC

I didn’t think APC did airfreight such as the FedEx Box sizes etc.I don’t know if there is a more descriptive term for that kind of express shipping.

Sorry I often do things in a hurry I am very busy even though most on here will tell you that I spend all day in doors watching Love Island!

@MBE2017 is correct DHL offer the best service at the moment with a better performance than others delivering into the EU

Impossible to answer, - low weight, low volume, high value, best price -. what is the weight?, what is the volume? what is the value? what do you pay now, shipping, insurance, tracking, signed receipt, what percentage of that would you like to save? how much is that? is it worth even spending time questioning your current situation?

Ask 100 people for their recommendations and get 100 different answers.

For import and export I would recommend DHL.

Another recommendation for DHL. Cheaper than Fedex, UPS or Parcel Farce for my consignments (1 - 2kg, few £100 - £1500 insurance value). That's ad-hoc, non-account shipments due to low volume.

Picked up Monday AM, delivered California Thursday.

Big variation- between £200 and £5000 export so far- mainly to the US and up to £40K import - used to be a lot more precovid,from the Far East.

Our preference for US is Fedex. As it's high value I would only look at Fedex / UPS / DHL. PF / RM / DPD are great on prices in comparison to the first 3, but for the high value stuff I would only look at the first 3. They're very comparable on service, as all are excellent so I'd be choosing the one with the best prices you're quoted.

You should be able to open an account with any of them for ad hoc collections, although I very doubt you'll get an account manager for this type of account or be able to negotiate rates unless you have a proper full account with daily collections. Even at this point I don't think the account managers have manoeuvrability for negotiation, it's just a case of them putting the volume of parcels you're sending, weight / dimensions ranges, destinations etc into their system and it giving them the prices.

For import I've always liked Fedex (if given the option) as when you have an account with them, they auto bill VAT / duty and don't charge the admin fee although it's very rare we have an air freight shipment these days so things may have changed since we last did.
