Hi all, LAC here.

I'm passionate about electronic music and tutor it on a voluntary basis at the moment.

The essence of my business idea is two-fold, 1.) a not-for-profit digital music label (it won't let me post the link until I've made 30 posts but the soundcloud is soundcloud/loudandclearproject) where I will upload electronic music produced by fellow enthusiasts, and any profits will go to two charities which I'm passionate about, (a homelessness charity and a mental health charity).

The actual "project" part will be tricky to turn from theory into practice, but essentially it will be individual and group workshops (I'm hoping) for young people aged 16-25 where they can come and use the software/equiptment/facilities and gain some knowledge about creating and marketing their own stuff (I feel it would be something highly beneficial to them), the "target audience" will be people aged 16-25 suffering from homelessness and mental health issues (I've finally decided to narrow the various social and personal issues to these two) and would work on a referral basis, so schools/colleges/charities etc would identify someone who they think would benefit from the service and then it would be decided if they meet the criteria for accessing the service.

I need more advice on a business model/plan, then I will look at possible funding routes (I have a few in mind) and eventually I'm hoping to tutor out of hours, for an hourly rate which will be open to anyone (but the proceeds from the project itself will be reinvested, as long as I am sufficient financially through the out of hours tutoring/ other sources I wouldn't mind, I'd be doing what I love and I'll be my own boss!

So that's it in a nutshell, I'm looking forward to using UKBF and talking to it's members!

Almost all digital labels are 'not-for-profit' though most wish that they could make a profit. The age of selling recorded music and earning money from that activity, is over (unless you happen to be called Adele!)

The music biz lives from live performances and licensing.

If you want to help the homeless and the mentally ill, I suggest some formal qualifications in social work and/or other activities, such as carpentry and cooking.

That'll be the eventual aim, I know of plenty of people touring the UK and even the world.

Well I live for music, almost literally, so teaching something I have no interest in and am not passionate about; carpentry and cooking, (something which they'd get arguably less out of cathartically) would be defunct.

Hi LAC, if you have not already done so, you should speak to some schools / charities to find out how what you are doing might fit with what you have in mind. Good luck with your project!
