looking for some advice on company car case

Hi

Been working for company for over 2 yers now, a year ago while i was travelling to a show, i used my personal car to get there (The option was from the management whether they pay amb. for the miealega or go by any other transportation i like except cabs)

While i was on my way, my car broke down, the reason was regarding to the engine... The question here is "that would not have been happened if i was driving there" could have happened later or never, you never know..

Whatever when i cam back, looked for someone to offer to pay at least some part of it but noone was interested... Total cost was around 2000GBP

Whatever at that time of the day i was not questioned...

But what happened last week was, one of our salesguys forgot to check the oil and coolant levels of his company car and blow the engine...

Company paid 7000GBP for the engine replacement as the leasing company didnt cover it due to "minor services should be made by driver"

So, isnt that a little hash ?

Looking for some help and advice on the issue as i am quite pissed off about the case!!!!

Thanks

It is an interesting question to me, to the extent that when I was giving employees company cars... over ten years ago...(before the tax breaks made it less of a low tax perk)

...I wrote in the terms for company car users, the demand that they
ensure that all services were attended to, all faults and warning lights notified and all standard drivers checks done -

and that they would be held personally responsible for any loss or damage arising out of the failure to do those things.. and authorising the company to take deduct such costs from salary....

I have no idea whether that contract would have stood up, although nobody ever came back to say I could not do this:

Fact is, I would have been asking that salesman for every penny of my £7K back!!....I would have had no sympathy for any problems it may cause him to do it - I dislike people who waste other peoples money out of sheer laziness - and worse....

Failure to keep a vehicle in good condition is a danger to other road users, so I might even have taken a pop at him for employees gross misconduct on failure to comply with the companies health and safety policy, since company car user induction is in there too!!

I would certainly have made him catch the bus in his own time to wherever he needed to be, whilst the car was being repaired!!
