Hi Jim2k

Yes, Synology seems to be the best one out there according to the research I carried out. Will be ordering one of these.

Thanks all

Good choice. I have a Synology NAS with 2x 4TB hard drives running in RAID 1. It has worked perfectly since the day I got it and you can access the contents from Mac OS X, Windows and Linux all very easily. Great device for backing up from multiple operating systems.

Another vote for the Synology here. I have had the 712+, 713+ and recently upgraded to the DS1513+. Give me a shout if you need a hand with any of the configuration.

Rather than using RAID 1 consider the Synology hybrid RAID. It shares similar qualities to a RAID 1 but has additional storage capacity and slightly increased read/write speeds.

Is mirroring the best way to record data as garbage in garbage out

If you used something Like Acronis to make a backup instead at say one hour updates from one disk to the other, you may loose a hour's data but it's secure. Where as if say you screw up your e-commerce software the mirrored copy is also buggered up and if you have no other backup than you are screwed, but by using backup rather than mirror yo have the advantage of recovery
