Hello, apologies if this is in the wrong place, I'm looking to hire an independent software developer for an online sports management game, not a graphics style game, but text based, I'm not sure how to go about finding someone. Any help appreciated!

Depending entirely on the nature of the project, and your budget, this is something that OrangeTree Online could help with, especially as they have a policy of employing people whose training and interests are in the gaming arena.

Disclaimer - I own part of the business. For a more specific discussion I would arrange for one of the business team to speak with you if that was of interest.

There are, of course, other agencies that supply staff to do this. My main counsel would be to ensure that you are able to speak with the developer(s) who is working on your project, on as frequent a basis as suits you, and that in advance of the project they spend enough time clarifying your requirements that you feel confident in them. If you have doubts, of any kind, clear them up or move on.

I have used Dotsquare in the past. (Or you can pay directly to India with Team India - part of the same outfit.)

They were good when I first used them but the last job was rubbish. The developer they assigned I think must have been a student, and not a very clever one at that! No commercial awareness and took her a week to alter the wording on letters which were going out!
So I would say steer clear of them, although they usually come up with AdWords if you google a developer.
