Looking for a mail order partner (with warehouse space)

I have a small mail-order business that needs, currently, about 1000 Sq Ft of space to store products.

Ideally I would like to partner with someone who is looking to share warehouse space and staffing costs as we currently only have enough orders for 1-2 hours work per day. Obviously I am looking to increase this ASAP (starting when I get back from holiday in early August).

I am based in the South East (M4 corridor) but would ideally would be looking further away from London (i.e. cheaper). Where I am at the moment £10 / Sq Ft is considered "cheap" - I would be aiming for a lot less than that ideally.

What are the nature of your goods? Or do they need bulk floor space, shelving , pallet racking , small parts bins etc?

How many different sku's?

How many sku's / pieces per order?

How regular are deliveries in?

What couriers do you use?

What warehouse management system do you use? Or how do you process orders on a daily basis?

Just a bit to get you started.

Sam is right in what he has asked, would need alot more information instead of just Warehouse Space.

LPL Transport (which I wown) has access to a warehouse but how far out of London do you want to go that is another question. We are based in Liverpool. We store items on pallets for 1.20 per day (standard size), what are your products? Do they need custom sized pallets? Can they even go on a pallet?

We have just taken this over and frankly it is a bit of a mess. The products are wooden boxes so they stack on pallets really well. The previous owner ordered a lot of stock - in some cases probably enough to last a year of two! Fortunately this was when the Euro was at 1.3 so it has saved me re-ordering for a while. Only about 50 main SKU's.

Realistically looking to run the stock down to manageable levels and then organise it properly. At the moment we have 600 Sq Ft crammed floor to ceiling which is a pain.

Hi,

Have you considered the possibility of outsourcing the logistics part to a 3PL? It could well work out cheaper than what you are paying now as you are effectively sharing the resources when you outsource it. This would also mean that you are able to concentrate on other parts of your business and let another company get on with the operations for you.
