Looking for a decent SEO!

Hi,

We've recently started a new website (2-3 months old) and the time has come where we've just run out of time to do things by ourselves, so we're looking for a decent SEO guy/girl to take over one of our sites (and maybe more, results dependent!).

We've got 3 main keywords that we would like to rank highly for. These are our current positions in Google:

Main Keyword - Position 7
Secondary Keyword - Position 15
Third Keyword - Page 5

I think that the site is already well optimised on-page, so I think this job would just require backlinks and other various linking campaigns.

We would pay using PayPal and we would pay depending on how good you are, so we would need to see sites that you've worked with, before negotating your wage. As a rough guide, we won't be paying any less than £200 a month.

If you want to know more about the site and the actual keywords, please PM me.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone interested!

Steve

The one which has the best mix of conversions and searches. It is also quite a specific keyword (3 word phrase), which relates 100% to our product.

I could of chosen a more popular 2 word phrase with more searches, but it doesn't convert as well. After all, it is all about conversions. I'm not after the 'fame' of having the top spot.

I think that if this keyword went up a few more places from 7th, it would convert very well indeed, especially as the manufacturer has 4 pages in the top 10 spread above and below our 7th place. Our ideal situation is to get up into the 'mix' of the top 4 spots.

You are right about the conversion part and it a happy feeling to see a business being aware of such facts. Most clients I have dealt in the past talked about rankings, rankings, and rankings. It hardly would make any difference if you rank for the wrong keywords or obscure keywords.

Having said that, 3-4 words key phrases do not have a very high search volume as compared to category keywords but do convert better. After all its all about conversion and making money with your online venture.

Hi I only asked as in my experience most business owners are not aware of what keywords will earn them the most money.

Identifying those keywords is a major part of an SEO's job.

As for the fame of being NO 1.I think you may want to reconsider that as the No1 site has 3.5 x the traffic of the No2 site and 14 x the traffic of No 10.

Indeed it is but there should be a brainstorming session with you and your seo. An seo cannot know every industry and all the products, you will need to have some input.

Also once keywords are established the customer has to let an SEO know what is converting as well as the SEO using analytics to track conversions/enquiries. So often customers forget to enquire on telephone calls/orders as to where they saw their product whether it be website, advertisement or recommendation. SEO is marketing and has to be measured as such.:)

Everyone seems to be an expert SEO and many claim they know the best methods and techniques. There is no substitute to writing good interesting copy which people will naturally link to. As regards to keywords and phrases there has to be some input from the client, as well as the SEO finding good phrases. Just ask your clients what best describes your business and then give the information to your chosen SEO they should be able to do the rest.

Give me a call if you think we can help. Or visit our Search Engine Marketing pages to see our results, methods and costs.

thanks

I don't actually know how other SEO companies work, we work WITH our clients.
I feel it's unfair on an SEO company to see a website and be expected to produce great results without any input from the website owner.

We send our new clients a questionnaire asking questions such as "what do they want to achieve" (sounds silly, but everyone has different goals) we ask what THEY consider the keywords are that they want to optimise for, we then research this and make recommendations for the best words that will result in the best sales, sign-ups and so on.

Clients look to an SEO company for expertise but they need to set us on the right track, imagine a company who is unhappy with their SEO but they haven't spoken, communicated and discussed the project together.

Our philosophy is simple, No input from the website owner then no job.

The only goal 99.9% of business's have is to make more money.

Hence the only information one would need from a client is.Whats your most profitable lines.

All other information should be able to be gleaned from there website, unless it has not been designed properly.

An experienced SEO will also be a marketeer ,and study to have an intimate knowledge of any product and how it can be put to the public as well as being able to advise on any design and conversion flaws in a website.

Sorry but thats exactly what an SEO should be able to do in relation to internet selling.

He may not know every nut and bolt, but should be able to identify the keywords that will produce the maximum sales for every product on the planet.:)

Earl

Ok i will rephrase. An SEO cannot know all the products a person is selling without asking...especially if they are a startup! and you've generalised what i was saying - i know what i meant :D

Anyway I am sure when I get to your age Earl I will know every keyword on the planet that produces maximum sales:D:p

99.9% is not entirely true, we optimise websites for companies that want:
  1. Sign-ups and nothing more
  2. Who want as many hits to their sites as possible so that they can accrue affiliate income
  3. So that they charge more for advertising on their site
  4. So that they can encompass as many visitors as possible in a specific industry with a non-eccommerce factor to it (services)
  5. Increase sales
It's all depends on what the customer expects, I don't think all other info should be gleamed from the website, a good chat so that everyone knows what the purpose of the SEO should be about is definitely a pre-requisite.

The SEO should be a knowledgeable marketeer and pass-on many techniques to assist in the marketing of the site, in many ways this is part of the SEO.

As mentioned in my earlier post, SEO's should discuss and have pretty good contact with their client so that everyone is clear, many SEO companies get sacked by companies because either targets weren't met or they had different ideas of the purpose. A good example of this is James Biggins post here on the SEO forum about his SEO company under achieving, he's had little contact with them and was pretty angry that they've optimised the home page and nothing more, if good communication and a questionnaire was instigated at the beginning then his problem wouldn't have occurred.

well you have just confirmed what I said they want more money.:)

"many SEO companies get sacked by companies because either targets weren't met"

You mean they did not make them any money don't you.?

"a good chat so that everyone knows what the purpose of the SEO should be about is definitely a pre-requisite."

Why would I waste my time gabbing away with a bunch of amateurs.?

I have several partners in various business's and they never ask what I do,cause there to busy doing what they do.

There only interest is.will I make them money.

People seem to love to complicate matters with a load of gobildy gook :D

Personally, I don't see a problem here. Whether it's a colleague or not, the OP is clearly inviting suggestions for an seo individual/company so why shouldn't a member promote themselves in this instance. It makes a change from the too common situation of a member coming here and asking for some seo advice only to face a barrage of 'I can do seo for you' posts.;)

so we're looking for a decent SEO guy/girl to take over one of our sites

BrakeLanes: I think you are approaching the issue of SEO from the wrong angle. What you may want to promote online using specific keywords is fine but you also need to understand your target market, its behaviour, and to also see how they are going about searching for the services and products you offer. Then you can combine that with what you personally might want to promote. That's what experience has taught me and I've never been disappointed so far.

If I can help, feel free to PM me.
