Looking at CPC Income

CPC dunce here, so be kind if you can lol

There's a lot of talk about CPC advertising around the net but the actual facts and figures seem to vary hugely... and some of the online calculators suggest that CPC is hardly worth it..

Is my interpretation of the way CPC actually works correct?

Say I have a website that attracts 1,000 visitors a day.
On average those visitors look at 10 pages each
Down the right side of each page there are 5 CPC adverts

Over the course of a year my website would deliver 18,250,000 CPC ad impressions

If The Click Through Rate is 0.1% those impressions would generate 18,250 click throughs

The average payment for a click through is 50p

So for those 18,250 clickthroughs the earnings would be £9,125

Have I interpreted that correctly?

As a ballpark would you say figures are a CTR of 0.1% and a commission of 50p are realistic or is it not possible to answer that question without more information..

I'd appreciate any comments..

Its easy to answer this one... You're way out. I have plenty of these sites but they're not big money earners... Best off having lots of niche sites with each making some money.

In your calculations you're basically multiplying everything but ignoring the consequences of them clicking an ad.

Put it this way, if they don't click the ads on the landing page, they're unlikely to do it on the other 10 pages, so its not really worth multiplying that. Also, regardless of how ever many ads on a page, they'll probably click just 1.

You might as well think of it as 1 Ad Impression Per Visitor. So, 1000 a day means 365,000 impressions per year. If 0.1% click that's 3,650 clicks, each at 50p is £1,825.

Also, that's if you're lucky, and you won't be, because of summer, Christmas and all the other things which happen, including Ad Blockers... So, I'd guesstimate it around £1,000 to 1,500.

The only thing I can say is, you should be able to do much better than 0.1% if you target your visitors properly, but make no mistake CPC is a numbers game, and really, you need a lot more that 1000 visitors a day to make decent money.

Subbynet is right here, although yes if each day was exactly the same then the results would pan out as you say but as we all well know that is not the case. How many of us are feeling the dip currently with it being the school holidays?

Just to throw another idea in here as I gather your trying to monazite your site.. Depending on the niche / target audience the site is aimed at why not set it up with affiliate products aimed at those people - maybe through the Amazon affiliate program? Thats a popular one.

Just an idea, as I say I'm not sure what your site is about etc but food for thought.

My 10p - I am in the Internet world since 1996 -pretty much from the beginnings. If you are new to CPC, Adsense - don't bother. On 1000 visitors/day- you will make £36.50 per year these days. Unless you have something really, really special. TIP - If you have 'good' visitors - a good site - find an affiliate program which fits and compliments your site. I found a really good one a couple of month ago - obviously I am not allowed to advertise - so you have to PM me for details. Hope that helps.

Im sorry but i have to disagree slightly with your figures on this.
My site doesnt get anywhere near 1000 hits a day and since Jan13 google adsense has already made us over £75.
Not a huge amount i know but it grows every month.
