Hi, I have been trying to decide how to redevelop my logo for a while, just like Dave.F's 360 Trades logos I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

That'll be explained on a caption some stage very soon!

I like Test Banner 1. Plain, but effective.

I instantly got what the logo meant, but appreciate it might not be so obvious.

I personally feel that a logo should explain itself, though. Having a caption or something else to explain it means the logo isn't effective enough at communicating across the message you're trying to get your customers and target audience to understand.

Ask yourself - with just the logo (the A with the wings), would people know and understand what your business does?

Hi Adam,
It sounds like you like your logo and have put hard work into it.
That aside though, we are objective, as are your customers, and if we think the wings are not right, then you should consider acting on it.
I hope this helps.

Is being different a good trade off for not being instantly identifiable?

Agreed, but how did other names and logos become synonymous with what they create, take Nissan and their logo to a stranger it may not be clear that they are a car manufacturer. Over time people know the logo and what they do. What about Virgin Atlantic - first timers on the mile high club! LOL. :D (sorry!)!

These businesses have the budget to make anything work for them. Nissan or Virgin could have an albatross as their emblem but with millions of pounds and years of trading under their belts, they have built brand awareness.
I don't think you have this type of budget to build up this sort of brand awareness.
The rest of us try to help our businesses by using an icon that encompasses what we do.

I hope this helps.

I must admit Adam, when I started up, I designed my own logo. It looked like tat.

When Creospace designed my site (and a lovely job it was too), it was quite apparent that my logo let it down.

Colin from Pixels Ink (on a Creospace recommendation) came to my rescue, and I still get comments today on how people love my logo.

It sits well on my site, plus other places online. It sits perfect on letterheads/invoices, etc, and I have been having a number of clothing items embroidered lately - and they came out particularly well.

Your logo is something which everyone sees, and it has to be right.

I have to agree with the "nays". There is nothing wrong with the logo as an image, but there is nothing about it that will make me think about computers.

I hate being negative, but like I say the logo its self is fine… but it does reflect personal taste and in line with Dawg’s comments, whilst it is unusual for that industry sometimes breaking the mold isn’t always a good thing…?

this said if the logo is always shown with "adams Computer..." then it's not even an issue...

I agree however I've been using the wings logo now for a while and I actually like it and I'm sure that it will fit in with my other ideas and future plans.

I appreciate all feedback given so far, I doubt I will make any major changes like a re-design. If anyone one wants to try and tweak it and share it let me know.

Hi Adam,

I too don't want to sound negative, but I don't think the logo works for your industry. It doesn't suggest that you fix computers and that you're good at it. Remember that it is all about what your customers would want and not what you want. At the end of the day they've got to relate to it and if it doesn't say what you want it to say to them, then they will look elsewhere.

Can I ask, what are the wings suppose to symbolise?

I hope that helps.

Cheers

Jeff

I don't mean to frustrate you in any way, but protection of what? I can see the caring element but if I understand correctly, you fix computers, you don't protect them. Or am I being extremely naive?

If I was you, I would look at something a little different to what you have. I think the colours don't lend themselves to ease of use in both on and offline marketing material and I think the message isn't clear at present.

Here's something I've knocked up quickly that I feel would be better. Obviously this can be improved too but I feel it's a better starting point for you.

Adam, Please listen to their advice.

I worked hard on my logo too, but listened to all the comments also.

No one here is being negative for the fun of it, I am very sorry to say (as you know I am no expert) but I also do not get the wings:|

brite-i's logo looks much more in tune with your services and would not look out of place in the yellow pages etc.......

Why not post a few different mock-ups without the wings and see where they lead you?

Regards
Dave.

Hi Adam,

I'm afraid I don't get it either. It may be a design YOU like but as an observer it's a bit gothic/Aerosmith/tattoo design for my liking.

You're (I'm sure) a great computer fixer, and you need to show this visually. You don't need to be cool (although in real life you may be so!) in your logo.

I've spent 5 weeks and 12 hours with agencies attempting to get my logo right and still not got there so I know how tricky it is. Keep up the good work.

Use whatever you wish for your logo. The fact that it isn't a "cute ickle compooter" is obviously upsetting for some.

Oh noes!!! A multidiscilplinary building contractor!

That said, I would agree with the comments about the logo looking too gothic/metal. A winged 'A' is absolutely fine to use for a computer repair firm - just not as they are.

Good point, well made.

Eagle - have you any examples of logos/businesses where the logo completely misses any description of (or looks like it opposes ) the business? It would be interesting to see some that we know that work.

Yes, I know you're not a designer and I appreciate you are trying to help. However, what you're suggesting is the design equivalent of me telling someone how to fix their car's engine. It could have could have far-reaching consequences.

Test Banner 1 is the most impactful - the background on the others loses the impact of the logo.

I like the concept with the wings..it would stand out in the market (I presume?). Things don't have to be 'obvious' to work in my opinion and anyway wings to me relate to rescue and service.

It definately needs a re-work though and made a little 'softer'. At the moment its looking like three separate elements that need bringing together a bit more so they all work as one logo.

Why does his logo need this?

Need is not the criteria. He won't fail if it is missing.
However his logo might be more useful as a marketing tool if it had a symbol that was easily and quickly recognizable as a sign of computers and computer repairs.
As with all micro enterprises there will not be a significant budget for promoting brand awareness, or any recognition and remembrance strategies. Having a logo which does at least part of this work, (which passers by understand, which existing clients recall easily, etc.), is a prudent use of limited funds and will probably be more effective as a business tool than a design which resonates only with him and a few designers.
Of the posters on this thread, many seem to not dislike the wings, but to feel something else could be more useful.
So his logo doesn't need a spanner or any other symbol. But it will be more effective if it has something relevant, and that something is seen as relevant by Joe Public.
