Any assistance with the following?

A UK based training company want SEO carried out on their website. However they only want to target search results within one region in the UK.

I know if they run an adwords campaign you can set the area you want the ad to show. Is it possible to do the same with SEO?

I am presuming the answer might be the keywords. If they are targeting the keywords "first aid training" should they simply add the relevant region "Lancashire first aid training" would this work. Or are they a better way to approach this.

I would assume that it would be easier to to obtain page ranking when you are trying to target a specific region, rather than the whole of the UK.

Thanks

Wouldn't this sort of question be more targeted towards a online marketing forum like DP, or BHW, or Warrior Forum than here?

To answer your question, yes, optimizing for a specific region name can be done by including that region's name in your keywords, however this will only work if the visitor actually types in "RegionName Service". If they're simply from Lancashire and type in "Service", then it will have no bearings what so ever on it's rank.

Hope this helps!

I think it is quite acceptable to ask a SEO question on a forum for SEO

To the op, yep just optimise for local search using local keywords and with backlinking use your local kw for the anchor text.
Also if their is a local places listing for your clients business type then i would suggest optimising for that.
