live streaming

we have live streaming at our place of work so clients can log in and check on their dogs whenever they feel like it throught their phones. Not everyone is managing to do this easily enough so I would like a link put on my website so they can just click on it, enter their password and view.
I don't have a clue how to do this but the guy who sees to my website said it would be hard work and very expensive? A client of ours said he could do it easily enough. Is my website guy just not wanting to do it?

Whats the current setup and how many people view a stream at any one time and for how long? - if you know that is.

If you want to do it via mobiles then it's a little harder than if you want to do it via desktops but it shouldn't be too difficult if there is a working platform already in place.

I've got quite a bit of experience with live streaming and broadcasting applications so I can offer guidance. But with the info you've given, it's difficult to give reliable advice. So explain and people here can help.

Hey there,

I've worked with a fair few IP-based CCTV systems in the past.
Lots (nearly all) of them allow you to view the cameras through a web interface.

And some of those allow you to view that web interface through a mobile phone.

Additionally, some IP-cameras automatically upload cameras to a web server on a timer - which are fairly easy to view on mobile devices.

Feel free to PM me or call me if you want a bit of free informal advice.

I mustn't have explained myself.
Customers are viewing through their phones at the minute but ideally I'd love to just have a link on the website they can click on and put their password in. At the moment the password is only given out to approx 7 people but as we get busier so should the viewing.
We have 4 user, password options.

Would IP-CCTV be the best solution for something like this though? Seems like an over complicated setup for something that can be achieved with a really simple, scalable solution.

Wouldn't a simple AMS/Wowza setup be more elegant? Through an entry level hosting package for cost effectiveness.

No hardware constraints, don't need to worry about stream protection, deploy anywhere, dirt simple to setup, is optimized for web streaming (bandwidth and adaptive bit rates), has desktop and mobile streaming support out of the box through simple flash and/or html5 players and has low cost hosting options.

You'd need to place a live stream viewer on your website, feeding off your NVR in The Mutz Hut. Now, whether this is a simple or complicated matter to implement depends largely on the skills of the person doing it. Your web guy may not be versed with streaming media, although putting the player there is a somewhat straightforward process and for someone who knows what they're doing, should take less than an hour to switch on.

This might be a good place to look for said player: http://new.livestream.com/broadcast-live/encoder

I still don't see why you want to make a whole steaming protocol for this. (It is doing so much for gaining so little.)

I think:

This can be achieved by a simple user log in system and a URL re-direct. (And a bit of coding of course)

Are you trying to host their DNS services too or have they all got static IP address?

What kind of budget do you have in mind?

On the other hand:

This could be a privacy concern for your clients. As that means you have access to all their CCTV footage 24/7.
