my apologies if this has already been covered.
I have a bricks and morter shop in which i sell alternative clothing and goods. The majority of these items come from Nepal. Now my shop is ticking along nothing outstanding. I am toying with the idea of going direct and ordering as a wholesaler. This way keeping my shop but dipping my toes.
I've read as much information as I can but the import duty and such like frighten me.
The other thing is, do little side street shops venture into to wholesale or should I just leave it to the biggerboys?

Hi Matilda Duck,

I am not certain what you mean about ordering as a wholesaler, but I am assuming that you want to buy direct from the manufacturers.

If that is the case, you have a lot to learn, and I would like to alert you to the possibility that you may be offered a multitude of products from suppliers, and others will offer to source products for you. Take care, because you need to be sure of their bona fides.

If you already know the sources and know that they are reliable, you only need worry about the importing side of the process.

As a veteran importer I know the ropes and I can tell you that long ago I gave up trying to handle the importing myself, and left most of the work to the couriers or the postal service. You should not be worrying about import duty, payment of VAT etc., that can be done for you.

You may like to PM me for some more information. I do not offer services in sourcing, freight forwarding, or customs broking, I teach how easy it can be to import small quantities.

hi friend, it is a good thing to move ahead and expand you business into next level. before you build up stocks for distribution, you need to make sure that you have sufficient retailers who can absorb your stock, this is a priority, as long as you got that, you can consider the next step by investing stocks.

Hi,Multilda Duck

No any worry about that.

If buy little amount, let the supplier deliver by EXPRESS,ie DHL,FEDEX etc.

They will settle all for you.

If you want purchase large quantity, you should know the paperwork of importing it and the license for this matter and many other things.

You can try to consult more info from the commercial department.

May it do a favor.
