im using www.linkreferral.com to gain traffic each day to my site.

advantage

People review your site (usually polite), and travel and explore it.

dis-advantage

if your like me and only seeling in the UK, then you'll have alot of americans looking at your site.

Froogle

I have sent a data feed, via a contribution in oscommerce to Froogle, i can see my products listed on Froogle now.
http://froogle.google.co.uk/froogle?q=store:lightoptions&btnG=Search&hl=en&show=dd

Also i have been visiting forums - asking for feedback for my site. I think that feedback is vital and key for maintaining a successfull buisness.

But im 20 - what do i know :)

Linkreferral.com, interesting. I tried this a long time ago, prior to the have to actually review sites function being added, and your ranking being set on how well you review other sites.

Unfortunatley though, it falls into the catagory of..."people only look at my site to improve their owns sites views". Totally untargetted traffic, and in my opinion, not worth the time it would take to use.

However, let me know if you make any sales/ get any business from it. I never did! ( we are going back a good few years now!)

funny you should mention that. Linkreferral will get you indexed as they rank well with google, but you need relevent links to really mak a presence in the search engines. They look at the quality and relevence of links incoming to your site.

im sure they cant manually go through link by link, they use their 'googlebot'.
Besides, this is one way of helping you go up the ranking im not saying it is the most effective.
:)

Jason

Also people with similar sites can review your site and give you tips.

Thats right, googlebot will look at the relevence of the site linking to you, and rate that link. A link from a high ranking site, that is relevent to your genre, will be more powerful for seo purposes than a poorly ranking site, that is not relevent o your genre.

Linkreferral.com is well ranked within it's genre, so if you owned a traffic exchange, links from it would be very beneficial to you.

As i said earlier, i would be curious to see how your results turn out from using them. Both seo wise, and sales wise.

Can you provide some details in regards to how many people you are getting a day. I have reviewed the service but for my time it doesn't appear to produce enough results.

Perhaps not but word spreads for those who do take a look. Already i have had enquiries and requests to exchange links.

My attitude is that it is better having it and not needing it than needing it and not having it. I dont need link exchanges but i realise it increases your ranking in the search engines etc.

And from the messages i have recieved it opens up a prospect for delivering to the US, one that I had not considered.

I'm sure you have all heard of "click fraud" and for both of you to recieve about 100 sound like click fraud to me.

Basically its just computer programs company to your site and click around and therefore ... your never going to get any sales.

I think my time would be much better spent getting my website higher in the search engines or just paying ppc to them.

Erik,
I agree with you it was a complete waste of time for me. I wasn't involved in what i am now, but it didnt matter. People are encouraged to look at your site, to improve their own rankings. They are not a targeted visitor by any means.

I would disagree with the click fraud bit though, As you have to submit a review of the site!!!

I checked my sever stats, and there were lot of unique IP addresses, plus linkreferral.com do rank highly in google for some varied terms.

But in my opinion don't waste your time with it.

Alternatives for free traffic are:

1. register with splut and other free directories
2. write an article or a few, on the specialist subject your business focuses on. There is thread with a good list of where to distribute to on this forum
3. Get involved in relevent forums-I will probably never make a sale from this forum, but if i was on a motoring forum, my chance increase! ( why do i come here.....? I needed a PR company, found one and never left)
4. Work on your SEO. The 20 mins+ a day link referral requires would be better spent, searching sites in your genre, and contacting with an email requesting a link exchange.
5.Look into joint advertising ventures. Obviously not with direct competitors, but with people who compliment you, and vice versa.

Just 5 really basic idea to build traffic to your site. There are loads more, and people on here will be much better qualified to advise than i am!! :D

Thanks for the advice, i have submitted my site via splut (thanks for that) - i will check out the thread re: articles and look for lighting forums :) thanks again for your help.

As for link referall - i must admit it wont give me sales i was under the impression that the traffic would help in the search engine rankings
