Link Exchange networks

Good morning,

Please can people give me their views on link exchange/swapping networks...

Is this a good route to go down?

Does any one use this method and what sort of results have they had

Thanks

A link is more highly valued if the surrounding content is relevant. Links have two benefits.
1. a link that somone follows to actually visit your site. Now google doesnt measure where people come from and how long they stay just because they can, so a link that brings someone to your site and the dicovered content then keeps them there for a minute or two is quite valuable.
2. an in bound pointer to your site which no one ever follows. If the site is an authority site, then the link can be quite valuable, however this then usually means (1). If a link is mearly part of page with dozens of other links and in its self is not visited because the content is rubish then its not going to have a significant value in relation to the effort you have expended to get it.
Hope this helps, if it does click thanks

You NEED relevant backlinks but backlinks only count for around 10% of your search engine ranking, its all about content, aslong as you have great content then thats around 70% of what google looks for...
I also suggest other forms of advertising its not all about the SEO, in these times you need your social networks, make a twitter, facebook fan page etc
as you WILL get visitors from them if you promote it properly.

Sorry but that in my opinion is a million miles away from the truth. Also if links only count for 10% and content counts for 70% what is the other 20%?

Google attempts to show pages in its search results that are both relevant and authoritative. It's well understood that the main measure of authority are links. 10%? Shurely shome mishtake.

I know links from similar reputable websites are important. There seems to be lot of link exchange websites, but I wanted more control.

It is possible to use this idea for a company listing all of it's agents, distributors, etc., and nobody else, or specific market sectors. I have set up just such a service and will let you know how it goes. Only 1st day but already listed in Google.

I think the word is selective. Don't just join every directory or link resource, be selective for your particular area, build relationships and trust, are the way forward, and it takes time.

hi,
i thought quality links were the key to get high on search engines ALONG with great content, but the more good links you have the higher in the search engines your site will be.

I think I'd rather put the work in and get relevant links, these type of sites will mean you get inundated with requests from irrelevant sites that you have to sift through, reply to (out of courtesy) if you don't want to exchange

I personally wouldn't use but some would, the guys that have replied already have given some valuable advice...
