Yes, in my area alone there are loads of businesses now on Facebook. With people using Facebook as part of their daily routine it enables you to keep in touch with your business contacts and customers much easier with news updates and special offers.

Is facebook fan pages good for business ?????

Most of the time, not really. You'll find that the vast majority of businesses simply have their personal friends and family added, and that's about it.

It can work for some B2C businesses which rely on a specific social group, and it's a good way to spread the word. As for B2B, I wouldn't waste my time. The effort put into setting up a FB page and trying to make something of it could be MUCH better spent elsewhere.

I would agree to a certain extent, it is certainly harder to get a B2B Fan page off the ground but can still be done given the right business. You're right to say that a fan page won't work for every business though, I think in most cases it's about trial and error. Give it a shot for a short period of time, see how it goes, if it terns out that your business' target audience aren't enticed to the page then perhaps find another medium.

Yes, I have to agree B2C does work better on Facebook and is more successful.

However, B2B can also work if it is done right. In my area there are lots of businesses who network online through Facebook and it is a good way to keep the brand or company name out there.

I am always coming across new businesses which I didn't even know existed which is a good thing for them. Once you get to 25 fans you can then request your own username - www.facebook.com/companyname - This can be put in your email signature or on your advertising material including a link on your website.

Looking forward to seeing more Facebook business pages!:)

What does 'off the ground' mean though? Marketing activities should be all about return on investment. Unless you're getting consistent clients from your Facebook page alone, then it's not worth wasting any time on. 'Likes' and things of that nature are just meaningless numbers.

Plus, the more time you spend fiddling around with it, the more customers are required to make it a worthwhile marketing venture.

So, I wonder how many people have gained a decent number of clients from their Facebook page, if any at all.

As others have suggested, it largely depends on the industry you're in. Due to vast numbers there though, for the exposure alone, I believe it's worth a presence.

Twitter is more suitable for many, although it can take a bit for some to understand it, and a lot of time.
