Leaflet Printing

Hello all.

Ive been looking at getting some leaflets / flyers done for a mailshot. Need about 10 000.

Did all the usual Googling etc to check prices - there must be a million printing companies in the UK! lol then i came across a printers based in Surrey.

I contacted them and asked for a price on 10 000, printed colour both sides.

I got an email back saying £135.00 including delivery, which seemed far to low - i wondered if he had misheard me and was quoting for ONE thousand.

No, price was indeed for TEN thousand, on a gloss paper, colour both sides, including delivery. for less than £140 quid??!!

To me this seems like a bargain. I was posted print samples, and they are very nice, great print and cut quality.

The company doesnt want paying up front. I was told to pay "only after you've had delivery and are happy with them" Ive never heard that before in all my years in business!

I dont mean to be a cynic, but when something comes along so cheap, i always wonder what the catch is.

What do you guys & girls think? too good to be true?

Note that GSM has no relationship with paper thickness.

In normal printing circumstances it does. The paper weight (grams per square meter) means the same area of paper will have more weight via thickness, material and density.

In layman's terms you'll find that 60gsm is a very thin paper whilst 350gsm is a significantly thicker card. 150gsm will be slightly thicker than Inkjet paper and so-on.

Micron is related to the thickness of the stock but the buyer is normally referring to rigidity which is related to the thickness (Microns) not the GSM (Weight). We use stocks of all types for our flyers and leaflets but check the thickness using a Caliper...incidentally you would surprised how much it varies even with the same GSM and from the same mill. Its always worth trying to find a cheaper priced leaflet could be a real bargain!?

Relax Carl

It's a good price - just about where it should be. You should be able to get others quotes in the same price bracket.

Hey all

When it comes to printing, cheap is not always cheerful. I know this because I used to be a club and venue promoter and i bought print from 10's of suppliers over a 3 year period.

The problem with print is that once it is printed, there is little that can be done. It isn't like a product that you can return. There are two main elements to the print itself, the quality of the printing and the quality of the card/paper. If either are dodgy then it reflects badly on your company.

Also when dealing with printers make sure that the price they quote includes VAT, delivery, upload fees, thier logo removel fee, file checking and any other sneaky thing they try to add.

I got so fed up with buying poor quality print and being let down so often, that I set up my own print company! That was the only way that i could be sure that I would get high quality stuff, on time and without any little extra charges.

Someone once told me "If something is cheap, you can not afford it!". You get what you pay for. it is easier to buy something of good quality first, rather than poor quality followed by a reprint with someone else.

BTW this is not an attack on anyone here. This is just from my own personal experience.

I just received my first small order today from MK Printing, 2 jobs for 500 A6 flyers each. I ordered on Tuesday and they arrived Friday and the quality is blooming excellent! Nice thick silky card, very detailed print. Upload 2 PDF's on the website, enter card details, sit back and wait...... sorted! It's how printing flyers should be. :)

Premier Print in Norwich £340 for 10k A5 flyers (know the owner - good quality work)
Printing.com £360 for 10k A5. National franchises, but have met a couple of them, again excellent quality.

This is a huge difference to your price and they are the cheapest and best I know of.

On the other hand think! Think hard...

When did you ever pick up a flyer and buy what it advertised?
If you did, what did it advertiser?
Have you EVER bought anything from a flyer that came through your door?

Sadly we had 18,000 leaflets printed before I thought of it like this, had paid more to have them inserted in local papers etc. now have about 15,000 of them sitting in the loft! The only time I get call from them are after an exhibition, and maybe 1:100 but only if I have spoken directly to the person taking the flyer. If we just spam hand them out - nothing!

Maybe you should post up images of your flyers on here and get some expert critisism. It may be that your flyers are designed wrong, unprofessional looking or lacking in proper information or call to actions?

If I get chance to scan one in I will, but have had new postcards instead of flyers designed professionaly for Green East and they look amazing!

Thanks for the offer and I quite agree on your comments but that was nearly two years ago and have learned a lot since then. Some of the issue is the political nature of the product it's self and only our perseverance and honesty can overcome that.

I am sure TeamTorquesteer will agree that the fuel additive market has a lot of bad points as well as good and the consumers are unsure how to choose between the different products available. That is something they prefer to purchase on good word of mouth, so I now network avidly instead and just use the flyers as backup info.

I'm still sure flyers work very well in some businesses when designed correctly but still curious enough to ask the question...

When did you ever buy anything from a flyer that came through the door?

I never have but will pick one up at the shops or museums if I see something interesting.

Regards

i must admit, some really good comments here.

i did however go aheaf with a nice design, call to action and all the relevant stuff.

3ish days later a man cometh to my door, buzzed the bell, bearing gifts.

My flyers were well printed and well cut. Of course a bad design can make ANY printing look bad, but thankfully we put a lot of time into the design, so im happy with that.

A few days later the invoice arrived, for not a penny more than quoted, and no "delivery fee" sneaked in at the end. Indeed, it was £135 for 10000 and no VAT on top, no delivery fee and no prepayment. I happily sent them a cheque the day after delivery.

For what i needed (give-a-ways) these are great.

Naturally, if you calculate how many people phone you after giving out 10 000 flyers, you will always be disappointed, but the point to me is ground coverage and these will do this nicely whilst i compliment it with other sales and marketing activities.

Unfortunately 95% of flyers made these days are very poor at selling and get a number of vital parts wrong. It's been months since I've come across a flyer through my door which actually gets even the majority of fundamental points correct.

Get it designed correctly with the right sales copy and it's very effective.
