Work is starting to dry up, I have a few jobs booked in but not a lot.
I've ordered 1000 leaflets to try locally, I've not done any leafleting before so it would be good to see how it turns out.

What I wanted to know do you think its best to post them all out at once or do half then hit the same houses again in couple of days.
I'll be doing them myself, at least the weather has been nice.

Hi Reece,
I think statistically, its about a 1% return rate. So the more you can deliver the more phone calls you may get. Can you keep them for more targeted posting (rather than lucky dip) and post to houses which may be more likely to respond (such as for sale, just sold, houses with skips outside indicating work)? Otherwise, to quote the guerilla marketing book "its like a duck hunter shooting in to the night".
Do you keep in contact with existing customers to see if they need you anytime soon?
All the best with it, post back on how it goes.

Most towns have community Facebook groups or buy/sell groups and I've noticed a lot of tradespeople using them to get business. If it's a group that allows people to advertise, then post the details of your business, some before/after photos and see what happens. It costs you nothing but just remember not to spam the hell out of the sites.

Where I live, somebody posted details about their dog training class on a local Facebook group and they were stunned with the response it got. She assumed everyone knew about it and she's gone from offering 2 classes a week to about 8 now.

I've tried that it's a lot of time and work for not a good return, depending on which type of clients business or private. I might be better to take leaflets when you go and do a job somewhere and drop a few off in that area with the address of the place you worked, it gives you an egde because they can ask a local customer

Hi, no all leaflets are for domestic properties. To be honest, thankfully, work has come in all at once and booked right up till end of May now, even working the bank holiday :(
I have posted a few in the local shop windows but not yet had the time to send them all out just yet.

Glad work has picked up for you.

You've wasted your money on the leaflets, don't waste your time posting them too. They don't work for trades, all you will get are tyre kickers wasting even more of your time.

Thanks estwig, although I'll have to give it try can't rule out anything unless I try it myself.

I'll let youse know how I get on when I send them out.

I have been trying to break into the Alderley Edge area of Cheshire, through leaflet dropping.

Did a full drop last year and this year, the same again, with business cards - both leaflet and business card are not standard thickness and multi colour and I think good quality.

This is a very specific market but to date, for three days of tramping round - not a phone call!!

Other, affluent, areas targeted - nothing!!

I am completely commercial and in the process of adding a domestic page to the website - this might be the reason why it hasn't worked or it could just be the wrong leaflet, leaflets get thrown straight in the bin or my approach is wrong.

The upside of this - when my business was residential I had people phone me up and say 'I've had one of your leaflets' - I knew I hadn't delivered leaflets for seven years!!

All the best

Rob
