Leaflet Distribution

Hi

I posted a few days ago asking how much people would pay for a thousand leaflets to be delivered by a friend, however, I think maybe a leaflet distribution company would be best as they may be able to help me target better areas...anyway, how do I know what company to trust? I do not want to pay money to find out that they have just been dumped...anyone got any ideas?

Also any leaflet distribution companies in derby, nottingham or leicester?

Thanks

Hi

I posted a few days ago asking how much people would pay for a thousand leaflets to be delivered by a friend,

We use flyer distribution for our window blind company and pay £50 per thousand .

That’s based on 125 flyers out per hour which works out at £6.25/hour. The actual number per hour is very dependent on the types of house (terrace vie long drive ways)

Put could you not pay them to slip your leaflets into?

Well the moment I am only posting business cards through peoples door so I would have to get some leaflets printed but yeah that would probably be a better idea because I dont know how many people read the classified ads.

Btw, do you think just posting business cards through peoples door is enough for them to take notice? I have had a good response from the cards but not sure if leaflets would generate more interest?

Cheers

Yeah I would probably target newly builds and they have garages attached on the side of the house and big driveways so I can imagine that taking a long time..well I deliver like 250 (pack) in around 2.5hrs with newly builds.

50quid looks bout right though, some companies are charging like 30-40?

Cheers

We did try using flyer distribution companies, however, we found it best to keep it ‘in house’ and over the last few years have built up a team of self employed distributers .

Keeping it in house for us has quite a few advantages allowing us to ‘hit’ an area very quickly or change our message easily. The disadvantage is the time it takes to look after/organise the distributors and as people drop out finding good replacement distributors.

We continually look for people as we have always more areas needing covered than distributors. However, it’s quite interesting when interview prospective people. I’m often told that ‘I would do anything’ to earn money.
In the early days I took them at their word (wasting time and money) now a use a simple system, we give them 200 flyers and ask them to distribute them in a certain area over the following 2 days.

Unknowing to them I have a friend or staff member living in that area...

After two days it tends to be one of the following

I’ve ‘just offered a job’ and can’t continue(amazing the number of people this happens too)

Or it ‘only took me 15min’ to get them all out give me more flyers

Or we may have a potential new distributor

Hope the above helps.

Hi Robert, thank you for your post.

Your idea sounds like a better idea, rather than a dedicated leaflet companies get your own self employed people...I have a few questions through...if you could answer them I would be very grateful.

-I am registered with HMRC as self employed (sole trader), not a limited company so can I still use in house people?
-Do you set up a contract between yourself and the distributors? even if its one that you get can online rather than paying a solicitor to draw one up for you.
-Also, I am just reading up on the difference between employed and self employed and they would definitely be classed as self employed cos they get paid a set wage for providing their service
-if you dont mind answering, how much do you pay per thousand? or is it dependant on the area/type of houses that you deliver?

Sorry for the questions...any help would be appreciated and thanks for getting back to me.

C&V leaflet distribution

Hi,

Keeping in house is always a good idea where possible, but if you were thinking of covering large areas or getting a large quantity out then it can prove to be hard getting distributors willing to cover the areas.

We cover all of the Midlands and could do the Nottinghamshire area shared with 1 other leaflet and could cover the other areas as solus.

If you need ay help then you can always email us.

Just seen this thread and thought I'd post from the perspective of a leaflet distribution company. We operate in the Central South area so not in the area you are concerend with. In terms of choice of company I strongly recommend that you use a company which is a member of the Direct Marketing Association which is the relevant professional body. The DMA website has a list of members on it. Normally your leaflet can either be distributed on its own (a solus drop) or with other items (shared). Clearly rates rates vary according to various factors but typically you should expect to pay £20-30/1000 shared and £65-£100/1000 solus for a an A5 or A4 leaflet. If anyone quotes you lower than that it is worth digging into how they can manage that. Having your leaflet distributed with a local free newspaper maybe an option if there is one. Typically this is a bit cheaper, but your leaflet is being inserted into a publication so is more likely to be missed by householders. If you are considering keeping in-house, it is worth bearing in mind the time and expense you will incur in recruiting and administering the whole process. It will not cost a lot of money to try say 5,000 with a reputable distribution company and see how that goes. Hope that's of help.

Thanks for your reply.

I have just searched the DMA website but there are no door drop companies where I am based (East Midlands).

Ill do some research into the local companies and then go from there I think. There is a few with fair amount of variety in their prices. I am more reluctant to go with a company just because of the "I have delivered your leaflet" but it has not been delivered at all. I am just a little nervous with leaflet distribution companies because of others responses about them. I think if I get self employed people that would be better, mainly because they will be family and friends...

Thanks everyone for your help!

Thanks for the replies!

I have another question about keeping it in house - if I was to recruit someone to deliver the business cards, would they be self employed?

A previous post said that I could get self employed people to do but I presume they meant adults? What about a young worker - would they have to be employed be me or can they be considered as self employed?

I ask because of children from 13 upwards apply to do a paper round and I can mirror this with hours of work etc but pay a better fee (a set fee/1000 leaflets)

I have read up on working conditions, minimum wage, hours of work per weekday/weekend, term time, holidays etc and will continue to read up on the rights of the young worker or any workers in general but if I need to know anything else that is very important, please let me know, cheers

If I did get a young worker, I understand that I will need an enhanced disclosure, however I am self employed so would a police check be okay/similar?

Thanks in advance!

Frontdoordistribution

Hi, I see you requested a quote via our site "Front Door Distribution" the main things to expect from a reputable company are:

1. Uniformed Staff
2. On line tracking capability
3. A postal address on website
4. A point of contact or case handler
5. To not pay anything up front

I hope this helps you out.

Many thanks, Howard
