Leaflet Distribution

Many people have and do use leaflet distribution as a method of advertising, some have experienced results less than they had hoped for.

It is my opinion that this is greatly down to one factor, the rate that they have paid per 1,000.

I would like to know how many people would pay £100 per 1,000 if the distribution they received would be at a much better level.

This would still not guarantee a 100% penetration, but would be as good as possible in this very difficult industry..

Your thoughts would be very welcome.

I would never ever use a leaflet company again - it maks no difference how much I pay per 1000 - I still never get any phone calls. Now we only use direct mail, telesales or inserts. Get better value setting fire to the money in the back garden than using a leaflet distributer.

Hi
I run a leaflet distirbution business and we have alot of satisfied customers, infact we have only ever had 1 unsatisfied customer in 2 years and that was because he didn't get a high number of calls from the area, which was his fault as we had suggesed the area wasn't possibly going to be appropriate for his companies products. Our goal is always to satisfy ur customers and in return they leave us some pretty fantastic feedback on some sites on the net. So there are leaflet distirbution companies out there who will do a good job you just need to do your homework. However in answer to the question I think £100 a thousand is a rediculous price the average dependant an areas is between £40-£70 at the highest. Our prices are very competative and because we pay the distributors a good wag we get a lot of work coming in and make our money that way. I think charging £100 a thousand is greedy and customers will be few. Some of the larger comanies charges in excess of £70.00 yet only pay the distributors £25.00 per thousand, and then people wonder why the leaflets aren't all going out.

Hope this helps

Leaflet Distribution

Hi Adam, many thanks for your reply.

However, taking a look at your website and the content on the pages, it does make me wonder a little, as the wording is exactly the same as some other leaflet distribution companies !!

Need I say more...

Alot of the information on our website is taken from material available to everyone, that way we get all the information we possibly can for a customer to make the best of a marketing campaign. We have many satisfied customers and in 2 years only have ever had one complaint so I think that has alot to say for itself Leaflet distribution.
I am not asking you to be the same as our company I was merely offering you advice. We had a leaflet distribution firm turn up in Lincoln year ago offering solus for £90.00 per thousand. They ran for 8 months and then had to cease trading as they didn't get enough customers. All I was suggesting is that you don't overporice yourself. Get yourself some good distribuors, train them like we do and offer them a good rate of pay. Obviously you have to make money but it is better I feel to make a small percentage of money from lots of differefnt work coming in than it is to make a huge ammount from one company and have to wait a long tiome for another booking. Distributors also seem to stay longer if they have work coming in often rather than staggered. In peterborough and Lincoln we have staff that have been with us for the 2 years and haven't left as we get alot of work there. Where as other places where we don't get a lot of work the distributors often move on to other things.
It is up to you obviously what advice you take I just thought I would offer some advice and my oppinion on the rates in order for you to make a deccision.

Obviously I don't know about the experience you had with the campaign that you did, but did you test and measure the material you sent out yourself? i.e. did you do a sample delivery yourself of say 2-5 thousand so you know the results you can anticipate.

You may have had a really bad company that didn't deliver for you or your material may not be up to standard and may not have got a response no matter how many you sent out.

It would be a shame for you to tar every distribution company with the same brush and for you to miss out on a valuable marketing forum by investing some time and effort into produce quality marketing material and then getting a quality company to deliver for you.

Leaflet Distribution is an excellent way to market your business. Most reputable leaflet distributors will give you plenty of support to get the best response rates for your leaflets.

£100 for a solus distribution does sound like a lot of money. As the average tends to be around the £70 mark. Remember if you pay too low a price for your leaflet distribution you have to ask yourself, How much are the leaflet distributors paying their staff? If it is minimum wage, then I am sorry to say the leaflets are less likely to be delivered.

Its true there are cowboys in the industry, as there are in most other industries but you MUST do you research first to find a reputable leaflet distributor. Ask lots of questions

Do any of the leaflet distribution companies posting here have any contacts in the Birmingham and West Midlands areas at all please?

A new local venture which has just launched their website and which I'm involved with is looking to have 15-20,000 flyers distributed initially and then further afield so any contacts would be useful please.

They're also looking to take out some additional advertising but on a relatively small scale due to budgets etc if anyone has any advice/input on that side it would be appreciated also.

Thanks a lot everyone
:)

It`s been said already but sub £40 pricing for a solus distribution does beg the question...if these are being delivered by a post person (and not the owner) how can a reasonable wage even be paid to this person after the cut has been taken?

£40 minus £15 for example (company fees) = £25.
1000 leaflets = a day (sometimes less but can be longer).
£25 over 8 hours = a little over £3 quid an hour. :(

C&V leaflet distribution

Hi,

At C&V Leaflet Distribution we charge just over £40 per thousand and about 40% of our work come from repeat. The reason that we can charge this sort of price is because I am nearly always out delivering with a team. However I always make sure that I do every delivery area myself to make sure that all of our distributors earn a decent amount each hour that they work.

We only offer a solus service to our customers, and have good repeat business from this.

We are a family run business with offices in Cheshire, and Rhayder (Powys).

We offer Solus services to west midlands, and more commonly Staffordshire, Cheshire, Shropshire and Powys.

Small family business ran by me and my brother and a very personal approach.

Our customers pay £85 per 1000 for us (as mentioned - solus only), with discounts to repeat business and large orders. With us, you know when and where we are during your campaign, so you can spot check us if you wish (we won't be offended). 2 vans, 2 men in each van (me in one and my brother in the other) ... No advertising or other overheads.
