Hi There,

New to the forums, but hopefully posting in the right place.

I have around 10,000 A6 leaflets to distribute around the London area, but i'm concerned about the reliability of the companies i've found so far (that's not based on my experience with them - its more that i don't have the budget to make many mistakes, so want to get it right.)

Has anyone had any dealings with a distribution company that they feel happy to recommend? or perhaps looking at it the other way, any they would recommend avoiding. :)

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply Robert,

Royal Mail seemed too expensive and a bit inflexible. They wanted a very large amount of notice before distributing.

The impression i got from them was that they were geared up to deal with far larger businesses and leaflets drops.

I am surprised by the comments re Royal Mail.

Yes they need 6 weeks notice but it arrives with your post and will definitely be delivered. Also they payment terms are very good because they at least give you 21 days to pay AFTER the flyer has been delivered.

They do have a minimum order value of £500.00 but that can be spread across a year.

If anyone is looking to flyer drop in the South West I can recommend Fusu. They either cater for street flyering or mailbox drops.

I run a local directory magazine in SW London - printing 10,000 copies.
Leaflets can be distributed in the magazine for a reasonable rate per 1,000. We absorb most of the cost because we have to deliver the magazine anyway.

The whole concept of our magazine is to consolidate the 1000's of leaflets that are distribute and then promptly thrown away by the residents (7 second lifespan isn't it ?!) Our mag is kept for the month and we offer free editorials to go along side your advert / leaflet.

Give me a ring on 079 060 94316 to find out further details

Does anyone really believe that leaflet drops are an effective marketing technique? I rarely look at the dozens of leaflets which come in magazines and free local newspapers I get. They usually go staight into the bin when i get them.
I need to advertise my new business and wondering whether it's not more effective to leave them in shops, hairdressers etc, so that only the people who are interested take them.
What do you think?

If you are doing the drop yourself then probably.

I use distributors at tube stations as they can give out more, and aren't required to talk, which is something they would need to do at hairdressers etc.

Instead of hiring a company to distribute your leaflets or an agency to do the work, why not just hire promotion staff for the day in your key locations? It's much cheaper and you can check up on them to make sure they're working hard. I run a promotions agency for the motorsport industry so I know what I'm talking about!

There is a lot more skill involved in ensuring that your leaflets are actually delivered properly than you might imagine and you need to be dealing with a long-established leafleting firm, as new leafleting firms are notoriously incompetent, regardless of their unsubstantiated promises, unless you feel like taking a gamble with your money! I've been doing mine door-to-door by recruiting through Gumtree and paying £25 per '000 (although I'm sure you could get away with £20), plus bonuses to make sure they get delivered and not dumped. Really happy with the approach so far, although for zero-hassle a distribution company would be the only option.

Whether flyering as a marketing technique is actually effective for what I'm doing...too early to say :)

Guys, no offence to anybody but you are all trying to save money while it comes to distribution of leaflets-this is where the problems start…..

Waveuponwave-you are saying that you find people to do 1000 leaflets for £25…shocking, all you are doing is asking the guy to distribute 200-300 and chuck the rest in the bin…..Leaflet distribution is a hard work…maybe you(people)should consider this….it takes average 4-5 hours minimum(depending on area) to distribute 1000 (this would be at least 6 hours in Hampstead-IF DONE PROPERLY)and you gona pay them £25 for walking like an idiots up and down for 5-6 hours and doing approx 10-15km!!!!!!
I use to do this myself to promote my business till I decided to leave it to the professionals and concentrate on the business itself……….

That’s why your leaflets are going in the bin……..
Second – there are a lot of big leaflet distribution companies that provide a national coverage----As some already posted in that thread…….all they do is take your money, subcontract to whoever they can find ,give them half of whatever they’ve charged and forget about it……….where most of your leaflets will end up?-dustbin again because of the low pay given to the subcontractor……

I was told by the Distribution company I have being using for the last 2.5 years that they were approached by one of the big companies in order to subcontract and asked whether they can guarantee 65% distribution of the work that they will be given………What this means is that the big boys don’t care what happens to every 350 leaflets out of 10000.Shocking

After trying so many companies over the last few years I found a small family run Distribution company ----the benefits are--you can go and see them whenever you like, you can talk to the same guy all the time ,you can do changes without having so many rules like-prepayments, minimum orders,2-4 week notices and so on.And most important-you get good results from the drops.....

Finally, bear in mind that if a leaflet Distribution Company offers you a good deal this usually means that half of your leaflets will not end up where they supposed to ----or your leaflets will be in the middle of a newspaper--- or in a stack with another 2-3 leaflets all folded as one in order to go in the letterbox as whole package……..after paying to design the leaflets, to be printed then at the end
this….shocking

I hope this will help anyone who will consider saving on Leaflet Distribution

You may well be right. I pay large bonuses for each booking that comes from one of their leaflets to encourage them to actually deliver them, and do get results, but who knows how many of them genuinely get delivered? I suppose the answer would be to do a few thousand myself and see how the percentages differ.

Out of interest, what would you consider a reasonable rate per thousand to incentivise people to do it properly?

Just ask yourself if you were to do this what would be the minimum you would do this for?Would you walk up and down for 4-5 hours for £25....I don't think so...you could for day or two but then you'll start thinking of how to do it in 2 hours and how to get rid of the remaining of the leaflets safely

I pay £40 for a solus and I'm quite happy with the respond which has been quite steady since I switched to the company I am using now......and I know for sure that the Distributors are getting over £30 per 000.
That's how it should be....

I deliver leaflets for my own company, 50 k a week and rising we have gps and video to make sure they do not go in the bin, you can actually count your leaflets going through the door.

Glad to see someone has some sence, if you use a distribution company that delivers 100k -500k a week, why do they not have a business that they would advertise through there own distribution service. They would make millions, but its because they cannot get the job done properly
