Hi guys - I own a leaflet distribution company and was wondering what kind of software is out there to calculate the amount of letterboxes in a specific area? I know there is LetterboxCheck, however I believe you have to sign up to a contract with them for their GPS trackers, something I will not need. I just need a simple bit of software where I can drag a shape around an area and I can be told how many residential properties and how many commerical properties are in that area. Any suggestions? Thanks guys.

Buy a UK address list - never tried it but this should be very accessible because practically every sign up form these days has address lookup where they can pull your address from a postcode. Total list of postcodes can be found on wikipedia.

Get a programmer to process the list so you can identify number of addresses per postcode.

Per postcode should be better than using squares on the map, I presume royal mail have mapped out postcode areas for most efficient routes for leaflet dropping.

If you still want to use square grids then just find a map that has the postcodes marked. Then add up all the addresses in the postcodes that fall into your grid.

An address list with OS-grid reference (AB 01234) or cross reference grid ref to postcode. This will get you squares - quite big. You could be more specific (i.e. AB 01234 56789) but less accurate. You could do it by political ward or postcode district.

Would be much easier to do by postcode...

The tricky bit is whether you want to know the number of residential/commercial properties or number of letterboxes. This isn't always the same thing.

Its going to cost you money but its a product you could resell on to other businesses.
