Leaflet advertising

A good friend of mine just opened international money transfer shop and courier service point.

For the money transfer service, the target market are migrants and small business owned by foreigners who wish to send money back regularly to their countries.

He wants to distribute leaflets about this service to the catchment areas and then considered the probability that most people within this target market probably won’t be able to read English.

So we thought about producing the leaflet in English and also the languages of these communities (eastern European and Asian countries).

Excluding the schools and hospitals, i haven’t seen this type of multi language leaflet advertising, so not sure if it’s a good strategy and the pitfalls for doing that.

Any thoughts and opinions highly welcome.

I love the idea.

I would suggest you do 2 versions of the flyer first as a kind of A/B split test.

Version A could be Asians
Version B could be for Eastern Europeans

Translation should be professionally done.

Then do a mock-up of ad in full colour and do some informal market research with Asians or Eastern Europeans. This research could be conducted with business owners in unrelated areas. For example, a Polish hairdresser probably knows more about how her country people send money back to Poland than Barclays do. Get a haircut at your local frizerie or offer them an inducement. Do your homework before your flyer hits the printing press.
