Lead generation - Who has visited our website? IP Address data.

Hi

There seems to be a few companies offering lead data on the people visiting your website.

If you are not familiar with it. You pay a monthly fee, you add a little bit of code to your website, and they can then track who visits your site and give you company name and contact info on that visitor. You can call the visitor and say "hello, you were just on our website, why didn't you buy anything!?" :D:D Joke.

Quite clever results. But quite a simple process I guess?

You get the IP address of the visitor (through google analytics). You then match the IP address with a database to the get the business info and contact details.

Is this how it works?

How is this possible in analytics. Audience > Network.

Is there a database of IP addresses readily available?

So as a business we have an IP address that can be matched to our business address? I guess these companies can't help for residential ip addresses. Its just B2B info.

Wouldn't mind trying to do it myself. Just in principle.

Anyone else interested?

Hi there are a number of companies offering you this, and it can be wrapped up in a nice email with contact details enclosed as soon as they visit your site. We recently trialed IP fingerprint:

http://www.ipfingerprint.com/

It was interesting, but you can of course get the same data from statcounter and an IP tracker

http://statcounter.com/

http://www.ip-tracker.org/

Using these is manual and not instant. I am not sure if there are any free services for this available. IP fingerprint was not quite what we were after at the time, and had some significant cost associated with it.

hey mate

Why has statcounter been mentioned? What does give me that google analytics doesn't?

GA hides some referral and puts them in [DIRECT]
apart of same GA hides ip address they don't reveal it ..
GA will not tell you that whether search is coming from images.google.com they will just say that search from google.com whether in other hand statcounter also makes it clear
GA is complicated to use where in other hand statcounter well even 5th standard child can use it

Without intending to push our product (one of the many available), there are of course free ways to extract such data and yes, through GA it can be done. The issue though is that GA hardly makes it easy and even then, it doesn't go that extra mile that businesses need.

My suggestion is for you to try out a range of the products available (checking first to find out what the costs will be, plus important things like whether you're committed to long contracts etc.), and then you'll see for yourself what you do and don't like. You may then still decide to try and create something yourself but most companies wouldn't bother if someone else has already created such a system.
