I am planing to start late night alcohol delivery service.

What do you think???

Jerry

What sort of volume are you thinking of? If someone rang up and ordered a can of lager, you'd drive it round to them? Or are we talking cases of wine or what?

Are people really that desperate for alcohol late at night that they'd order a delivery and, if they are, do you want to be the one delivering it?

I have to disagree with the above opinions. I think there is a solid market for this service depending on where you live. Obviously it would be more viable in a large city. Yes it may be difficult to get the required licensing, but like any idea or business, you can, with time, dedication and a bit of good faith make it work. Give it a go and good luck!!

I would need to get personal license and then get premises license. The minimum order would be 20 pounds no delivery charge.

1 bottle of smirnoff 0.7l would cost the same as in a premier off license.

personally I can't see a licence being granted, the police will object 100%

Why not???

I will have CCTV at my premises, the driver will wear stab proof vest, GPS and personal alarm. I can also wear a camera that will record every sale.

If they are letting tesco and asda sell their alcohol 24/7 then why can't I do it as well. It will also stop people driving drunk to the nearest off license if they can get their booze for the same price without leaving their house.

There is bunch of people doing it for years and obviously they are making a profit and I am going to give it a shot.

Also I live in a pretty big town of 150 thousand people with the good chunk of it being students which everybody knows drink almost every night also there is bunch of people from eastern Europe and most of them drink everyday .

I am going to spend a lot of time and probably money to advertise the business, I will have a lunch page on few domains I bought about 2 months before going live and then ether an ecommerce or just regular wordpress website which will be right at the top of google because there is no one else doing it in my town.

Is there any member in here that is running that sort of business??? If there is, I would love to ask them a few questions.

But asda and tescos are selling it at the store price, how will you compete? People will generally get a taxi driver to nip down to the local 24/7 and pick up a bottle for the price of a cab fare, Can you be this competitive especially after buying stab proof vests cctv alarms etc... I'd sooner get the taxi guy to deliver rather than Robocop.

You need to remember its against the Law to serve a drunk person, so those that will drive will do, in the end you won't be able to serve them anyway

You can get a bottle of smirnoff at asda or tesco for around 12 pounds!!!

Can you get the taxi driver to deliver a bottle of vodka for 5 pounds????

I don't think so...Robocop or not I still will be much cheaper!!!

I am not buying CCTV as it is alredy at my premises, personal alarm is 5 pounds and stab proof vest is about 50 quid. I can build my own website and the biggest cost is the premises license.

STAB PROOF VEST!

On your own delivering to groups of drunks.. F that

I imagine your staff turnover will be horribly high

There was a place did this round my way maybe 10 years ago, they did pot noodles (I remember this as I like em) magazines.. like Loaded, beer and stuff..

They had invesment and put a lot into getting their brand known coloured scooters, adverts in every paper and basically spending a lot to tell people who they were
they went bust.. forget the name
(Not good given their main office was 50 yards from my house!)

Problem was no one ever ordered any type of quantity, for your service to work people will need to KNOW you are going to deliver fast.. i say this as at parties frequented by teens and 20s if you run dry, you simply hit a club... therefore if they call you, you better be fast or they will all have pissed off out!

I never understood stab proof vests... wouldn't you just go for the neck?

I think @beasty highlights the biggest issue here... quantity (and speed too).

However, I think it could be a nice earner but its not really scalable, when you need more than one vehicle to meet demand and delivery time requirements the cost of hire, fuel and staff time will kill any margin you had on the booze. As a hobby it might be a nice little earner (specifically if you had no licence and didn't pay UK duty) but for me doing it legit... its not scalable. This adds restrictions to turnover and meeting customer delivery demands. If you cannot make a 30 minute slot, you don't have a business.

Found this, looks like this will highlight some issues for you

8 FULL days of dreaming....

Now I know these places and people 25 miles apart are being told 5 quid! how on earth do you deliver to people 25 miles apart!

ANSWER.. you dont.. FOR SALE! ahahhahaha that is a laugh
https://www.facebook.com/SpeedySnacksEdinburgh

If i were you, I would deliver at FIXED TIMES TO FIXED LOCATIONS, with a minimum order.. UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES. .MIDNIGHT 130, 3 AND 430 FOR EXAMPLE..

BEER BY THE CRATE
2 crate minimum
MARK UP 50% DRUNK PEOPLE ORDERING AT MIDNIGHT DO not care about price!

LIMIT what you will deliver, add a HUGE markup.. and make them pay in advance
MINIMUM order of at least 50 quid but probably more etc

I see that it could work, but you cannot be racing around banging on doors hoping to be paid...
RESERVE THE RIGHT to leave it outside TAKE A PICTURE and text the owners.. they might have forgottong and pissed off

ETC ETC

Deliver fags too! MARK THEM UP 100% if the smoker does not want them do not order. .again take payment in advance...

Thinking about it, I see that you could make this profitable, you just organise a run, 3 laps of the city, take all your stock with you and simply deliver what has been paid, you then KNOW your route before you go and can give accurate times.
