Late Confirmation Statement - penalty?

Hi,

I have a dormant company whose Confirmation Statement was due on 7th January (for some reason I thought it was 24th and figured I'd do it early.. oops.).

My mistake - So, I have submitted the overdue CS, 5 days late. It has been accepted by Companies House and is now showing as "Up to date" on the Company Overview screen.

What sort of penalty, if any, can I expect for submitting it late?

Here's hoping - thanks for the quick response.

It is a criminal offence to fail to deliver at least one confirmation statement to Companies House every year. Directors can be personally fined by the criminal courts. Companies can be struck from the register if a statement is not filed at all. However, no late filing penalties are imposed if the statement is delivered a little late

So to me that doesn't make any sense:

At least one must be made every year
If you don't, you can be held criminally responsible
No penalty will be imposed if its late.

The two last lines seem to contradict one another.

So basically it seems as though I've committed an offence by not filing one within a year since the last one (although it used to be called an Annual Return" if I'm not mistaken) because I was five days late.

The one thing Companies House will do is commence striking-off for a late Confirmation statement I've seen that happen a few times recently. If you havent already done so its worth signing up to the Companies House email reminders.
