Large items - postage costs

Hello all

I was wondering if anyone has any advice. I'm currently looking into retailing number of items online however I'm having issues with options for postage/delivery of said items. I've been looking on a few of the parcel sites etc for quotes but due to the fact the item is larger than the 0.23m3 (120 x 60 x 60 cm) volume most couriers stipulate and around 17kg's in weight the quotes are nearly as high as the retail price.

Does anyone have any experience of shipping similar sized items? If you could give me some advice that would be great.

What's the sales price of the item? Sold cots in the past (can't remember exact measurement of boxes) weight was 30kg and with parcelmonkey was costing us £8.95 each anywhere in UK.
