Keyword tracking software?

Hi,

Can someone suggest some software for tracking the rankings of our sites for given keywords?

I'm aware of a few, but I'm also aware that google traditionally doesn't like this kind of software hitting it's search engine (even with the random delays etc)

There used to be some sort of google key that could be used to do this with their permission but I'm not sure if this is still around?

So is there a way to do this without annoying google, and if so how do I do it and what software is best?

Thanks.

My personal preference is the SEO Book Rank Tracker. I've been using this and an Excel Spreadsheet and it works pretty well for me. You can save keyword lists and schedule them to run automatically. You can also export them as a .csv to easily import into Excel.

Hi i use seo powersuite (cant post link as fairly new here) you can set it up to use the google api, so as not to break there terms and conditions, though they do have a limit of searches you can do in a day, it will also do the same for yahoo, i have found this by far the best tool so far, i tried quite a few others and they tended to use google.com or google.co.uk (pages from the uk) rather than where most of my searches come from which is google.co.uk(the web) its not cheap, but its a buy once bit of software, with lifetime upgrades, so i hope a google search gets you to it.

hmmm.... I just looked at seo powersuite, specifically the "Waving good-bye to Google SOAP API key" page, and it pretty much seems to be saying "yes, you can go the (new ajax) api route and be blessed by google, or you can just use our human emulation software to sneak around googles restrictions"... so it seems a bit dodgy to me.

Yes there are two modes in seo powersuite, one where you use the google api, and are restricted to i think 50 searches a day, and then there is the human emulation way, i have never done it this way, as i am only checking on 40 keyword phrases for my business, so nothing dodgy happening here!

I tried Seomoz, thought some of the tools were great and always read the blogs and white papers, but found the ranking tool a little limited, as in it only checked once a week, also found 100$ a month a little pricey, but might revisit in time, as they seem to be releasing quite a few upgrades in the near future.
