I just signed up with iZettle and have been told by them I cannot do over the phone payments.

I'm confused because I'm pretty sure I can.

Using the manual charge method for visa and mastercard

surely I can just send a text message from my ipad to my iphone and then enter the details the customer gives me over the phone.

I just tried it with my wifes card and it seemed to work fine. What am I missing here?

Do you have an online account where you can do manual payments? is that what you mean by

With Worldpay Zinc you just go to your online account and add the customers details to do a phone order

You should realise that if you are taking customer card details over the phone, you need to be PCI-DSS compliant and have written procedures in place. Google it as I can't post a link.

You might think you can get away with it for now, as customers are clearly trusting you...but it only takes one occasion and you can be seriously charged!

From the Zettle site:
"iZettle is approved by EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) and adhere to the requirements of the global "Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard" (PCI DSS) for handling card data."

Did you really think they wouldn't have sorted this out?

In addition to the PCI comments - the statement you quoted Nuno means the device itself adheres to PCI compliance procedures. Not the merchant themselves, who need to demonstrate they are also PCI compliant with their business processes and procedures.

I think you miss the point, the duty is on the Merchant to become PCI Compliant, not iZettle, they already are..

More seriously if you take card payments in the way the OP suggests with the Customer Not Present, you are breaking the terms of your agreement with iZettle so if you are ever hit with a Charge Back, you will lose.. It also leave you open to a higher risk of fraud.

As other Posters have said this is where the WP Zinc product scores over all the others as it allows you to do BOTH types of payment quite legitimately and as per the PCI requirements.

So carry on if you wish to take the Risk, but if you are caught, it could affect your ability to hold a Merchant account facility..
