hi there, im currently looking at my Customs Declaration Dispatch Note from the test order in which i purchased from the usa.
I can see many codes but which one is it?
I hear its an 8 digit number but where can i find this code on this dispatch note??

Numbers i can see are the UPI which is on my parcelforce receipt as well as on the parcel, which is believe is the tracking number so i guess it cant be that.
But theres a few codes i can see on the customs declaration note but where can i find this code i am after??

Many thanks all

Ryan

Deniser, thankyou for your input and the response i have recieved shows as you said, they do not know about the commodity code.
Although with customs charging on a vague description, i guess it could charge anywhere between 0 and 15% isnt it??
Could go wrong easily and cost quite a bit.

Code im after is for 'film' (vinyl) for cars

many thanks

You need to get the commodity code from HMRC - just google HMRC helpline, then select the option for customs and excise, then select the option for commodity codes. Then ask your supplier to put it on the customs form when they send the goods. they won't do it otherwise.

The commodity code will not tell you what tax you have paid/will have to pay. This code is for customs purposes.
It depends how the goods are being sent id they are coming by sea you will have duty and vat to pay, you will have to talk to the clearing agent about these fees.

hi there, okay thank you for your reply and now knowing that the commodity code is no help, i guess the only way is to work it out.

I recently purchased the products i am after from the same business in america as a tester.
Info below:

Car film

Total Value $52.97
Postage and fees $34.96

Total $87.86

These were for three different types of film, dark, lighter dark and clear.

Sent by USPS and then when reached the uk, sent via Parcelforce.

Fees i was made to pay were the following:

Import Duty NONE
Excise Duty NONE
V.A.T 9.99 GBP
Parcelforce Clearance Fee 13.50 GBP

Total 23.49

Can anyone work out the fees?
I guess the 9.99 is the 17.5% Vat charge as standard??
Why is there currently no Import duty?? because the total amount wasnt enough?? if i was to spend 500$+ how much would i expect to pay??

Many thanks

Because there is no duty on consignments worth less than about £30.

If you are trying to find out how much duty you need to pay on your next larger consignment then get the commodity code. Just ring up and ask for it. Here is the number 01702 366077. With the commodity code you can then ring HMRC and ask for the rate of duty. It couldn't be simpler, I don't understand why you don't want to do this?

thankyou for your help.

I have a feeling if i ring them up, it will be a headache trying to explain what the film is as i have no idea what its made of or anything so i can see a headache coming along if i try to ring.
Anyway to find out a rough tax cost?
Or anyway to find out what i am paying through the info above?

thanks all

If you ring them up, it will be a lot easier and accurate than doing it on here. Honestly, it really is a painless process.

Deniser: You have the patience of a saint;)
