Is this handmade or not?

Hi,

My friend is preparing to launch a small jewelery business. She has made few samples of silver rings with an Amethyst in them. She is planning to open an on line store but she doesn't know whether she can put down that these are hand made because:
-Silver frame for the ring is bought directly from a manufacturer
-Amethyst gem is bought raw and she is breaking it down into smaller parts, polish it etc. herself to ensure it will fit in that silver frame
-She then inserts the ready gem into this frame

What's your opinion on this?

If the ring has been made/finished by hand, then you can say it's hand made.

"Hand made" is a very vague term and probably not very relevant today. The frame might actually be hand made but if it could be hand made in China in a factory which has thousands of people churning out millions of the items every year. So simply labelling the item as "hand made" does not really say much about the item.

Perhaps given that the OP is using semi precious stones, it should be labelled Hand Crafted.
