I have recently bought the domain searchmysupermarket.co.uk . Now I have it I am not sure what to do with it. Build the site and see if I can get the supermarkets onboard? tender it out to the supermarkets see if they will fund it? Or just sell the domain?

Feedback would be good guys & gals

Regards

I don't think the supermarkets would be willing to supply you with pricing information, since it would change so often, and they wouldn't benefit from it unless they were the cheapest in that particular category. Besides, a lot of supermarkets 'price watch' themselves these days and publish their findings to the consumer instore or online.

I know that Somerfield compares its offer prices with tesco's instore, and that tesco publishes some of its prices online. Asda used to compare a 'typical shopping trolley' with all of the other cheapest stores and put this at the entrance to their stores. I am not sure if this is still the case.

I don't think that selling the domain would fetch much from any of the supermarket chains, but you could possibly build up a website design and then sell it.

Sorry to have given such a negative response to your question.

Ok, here is your competition from page 1 of google.
www.supermarket.co.uk/

www.mysupermarket.co.uk/

www.dooyoo.co.uk/price-comparison/priceoffers-co-uk/85594

www.tesco.com/price_check_search/

www.comparesupermarketprices.co.uk/

As you can see, they are all generalised comparison websites, which will compare between the big 4 supermarkets.

If you are serious about this, I think you would be much better going down the niche route. For example you could compare Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morisons by their own brand pre-packed meals - based on value for money (quality, price, presentation etc etc).

This would seperate you from the other companies and would also give you an advantage - you would be comparing the quality of the goods as well!

Hope this helps.

It's a very crowded market. Our site OnlineGroceryStore.co.uk provides some info about the supermarket sector, but now that mysupermarket are being supported by the big boys it will be hard to get into the sector.

You could go for a niche or you could sell the name - Tesco are very acquisitional and redirect a lot of names to their online properties.
