Hello everyone,

I am thinking of starting a small start up selling All kinds of custom made business cards, including metal, plastic, PVC cards. I have already talked to one of my business partner in China, who would produce the cards in the factory there. I am thinking about setting up a website which allow customers to order larger quantities or as much as they want to order business card which is completely customized for them. However, I just don't know if there is any market for this. I would really appreciate your views on this.

Thanks

I like the idea of a metal business card. Could look quite classy if done correctly (brushed aluminium or steel or something).

I'd just be concerned about the price. Hit the right price point and I'm sure some people would be interested (I'm aware that these would be considered luxury items and therefore would have a premium price associated with them but there are premium prices and premium prices).

Hello yes, I had a look at this website. Of course the quality of our card can be as good as or even better than plasmadesign, plus the production charge in china is cheap (but high quality), so that's what I was thinking. But it seems like competition is high.

Business cards are a declining market.

Smartphones with apps give a better way of storing relevant information.
'Smart' gimmicky cards have never really worked: now they are a minority part of a diminishing market.
People don't want to wait for cards. Next day delivery of small laser print runs are reasonably popular, but used by many printers as loss leaders to make customers aware of other services.

Sorry, but I don't think this has legs.

There may well be a market, but the big question will be how to reach that market?

A cash-strapped startup will likely just go cheap and cheerful, not who you want to target.

Maybe your market is creative businesses who really want something that stands out?

I still think business cards have a place - there are plenty of networking events where real people meet face-to-face :)
